Ca125

Just got a call from doctors with my blood test results. My ca125 test has come back high. Normal rate is 35 mine was 100. I’m so scared.

  • Hi Kimmy43

    I can understand your worry.

My cancer was 2022. My consultant explained to me that a raised ca125 does not necessarily mean cancer. It can be raised for other reasons. One of them is infection. Other reasons could be fibroids, endometriosis etc.

Ca125 can be raised in some people with ovarian cancer. In womb cancer it is viewed as a useful marker. Ca125 it self does not diagnose or exclude cancer. Its just one part of the whole picture. So a raised level would suggest further investigation would be the best plan.

What I would expect to happen next- if you haven't already had one- is a ultrasound to have a closer look.

Why not give the Support Line a call and chat things through with one of the nurses. It might help.

    Jane

  • Try to stay positive Kimmy difficult I know, i'm so sorry you had to hear the news in a phone call from doctor.  I wish they would do these things face to face so at least you'd have a chance to ask questions. Hugging sending hugs Hugging

  • I was calm but after that phone call I’m now in bits. I’ve got a gynaecologist appointment Wednesday, I just want to know what’s going on.

  • Thank you, I’ve got a gynaecologist appointment Wednesday so I’m hoping to get answers then.  I’m just so worried.

  • I can understand its worrying. I would expect a scan if you haven't had one yet. And a general gynaecologist appointment- medical history, examination etc. Not long to wait now

  • Mine was 291 and was stage 2 grade 1.  As others have said it can be raised for all sorts of reasons

  • At the moment it’s the waiting game, still waiting on results of my mri.

  • As others have said, a raised CA125 does not necessarily mean cancer. In my case, my CA125 was actually quite low and I was still diagnosed with stage 1 EC, so it doesn't always make sense. Many things can raise the level, so wait and see. I hope you get some answers very soon. Best wishes.

  • Thank you, I do know I have a 3cm solid cyst on my right ovary but the gynaecologist said everything else was fine. So now I have to wait for outcome of mri.
