Hi there,
Following hysteroscopy i received the diagnosis on Tuesday by phone and am waiting for when my consultant appointment is. Nurse practitioner said I’ll be having a hysterectomy.
I’ve been told it’s endometrial cancer, grade 1 and have already had an MRI.
I naively thought I’d be in next week for the op but they said more like 3-4 wks. Is that right? Am I just impatient?
im hoping i actually have ovaries etc out as well because i have cysts that were suspect at one point too. I have a lot of fibroids so am wondering if that will mean i will need to be opened up rather than laproscopic or vaginally - how do they decide what method to use?
im also worried that the nhs has so many pressures particularly in gynae and worried this may affect spread.
It’s great to have a forum for support xx
Hi LadyH73
Sorry to hear your bad news, but everyone on this forum will help you through it.
When I had my diagnosis, I did wait about 4 weeks before I had the hysterectomy, so to me it sounds like an average waiting time. I know it’s not nice having to wait and you really just want to get it all over. I was kept in over night as I had my surgery later in the day, but sometimes you get home on the same day.
I’m not sure how they decide how they do the hysterectomy, maybe some of the other ladies may be able to help you. I had a laparoscopic, I had 4 tiny scars and now it’s hard to even see them, and I had my surgery just over one year ago.
Sorry I couldn’t help you further, wishing you good luck nd all the very best for a quick recovery after your surgery.

Hi I waited around 8 weeks so 3-4 weeks sounds fine. Think ovaries are usually removed particularly if you’re past menopause. I had an abdominal hysterectomy as I had a large fibroid/ also hadn’t had children so think based on a number of factors. I recovered well though - just a few more stitches and 2 nights in hospital.
Hi LadyH73, I was diagnosed in November 2021 and had my hysterectomy 9 weeks later. They were aiming for 6-8 weeks and apologised that it was 9. I think that it may be that those with higher predicted grades/stages tend to be taken in sooner than those who are predicted grade 1 and stage 1a/1b. The usual op is to take the lot out - that’s what I had, laparoscopically. I was told that the aim would be to do the op laparoscopically, with the proviso that it could change to open if anything unexpected was found in the bagging area once the op was started.
Thankyou that’s interesting, I think I have one fibroid that’s large at least and I haven’t had children either. Thanks for your response x
Made me laugh . Unexpected item in the bagging area. Thankyou
I was examined in the anaesthetic room after a spinal so was told just before going under. It really was ok- bikini line cut and can’t see it just under a year later!
Hi
I know that when I had my hysterectomy last year the hospital were keen to keep within the target. (My time line is in my profile). I too had lots of fibroids but I still had the operation laparoscopically. The MRI gives a good idea of the size and number of fibroids. I had a slight tear when removing my womb but it healed well. I too haven’t had any children. The pre op chat with the surgeon doing the operation should give you all the information you need hopefully and a chance for you to ask questions too. Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long. I used the time to prepare for after the operation there’s lots of helpful advice on that on this forum. I certainly found everyone’s experiences useful..
It was about eight weeks between my initial consulation following diagnosis and the surgery.
The main op was done laparoscopically (hysterectomy & removal of ovaries & tubes), but they warned me that because my uterus was thickened and I'd never had children they would remove the bits via a small incision near my bikini line rather than vaginally.
Hello LadyH73
Welcome to the womb group.
I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of womb cancer.
I would say that surgery in 3/4 weeks is good and some ladies on here have waited longer.
For most ladies on here the hysterectomy usually includes ovaries, cervix and fallopian tubes. When you have your consultant appointment they will go through in greater detail about what the surgery will entail. My surgery was done laparoscopically and they tend to try to do that as the recovery can be quicker. There are some ladies who have had the abdominal surgery. I would imagine it will depend on the size of the fibroids and sometimes things like whether you have had children before can make a difference.
I can understand your concerns about the nhs being so busy at the moment and it is natural to worry about spread. However I was told that the cancer surgery is normally prioritised where they can. With a low grade cancer- although they can spread, they tend to do so more slowly so try not to worry too much. My own surgery was 4 weeks after my first symptom. I remember once I knew- I just wanted it out.
I would expect you to have your consultant appointment soon and they will go through it all with you. My pre op appointment was done the same day- a Friday and my surgery was done on the Monday.
If there is anything you need or want to ask, you know where we are.

Hi LadyH73
I had a f2f at the hospital yesterday and my preop ,I will be having everything removed its very much past its sell by date so fine by me , I don't have a date for my op yet I am Provisional Stage 1a with a Grade 3 aggressive tumor so I am hoping it wont progress that fast and am hoping for the op within the next 4 weeks. I have been told it will be keyhole and will spend 1 night in hospital and if all is well home the next day.
And yes this forum is fab I really don't know what I would have done without it.
