Symptoms and concerned

Hi,

I am 37. I have had 2 bleeds since my last period. Discharge has also changed. I've been to the doctor twice. They checked me and swabbed me and all clear. Now I'm being referred for an ultrasound. Not sure how long that will take.

I guess what I'm asking is, has anyone been in this situation with similar symptoms then diagnosed?

I understand symptoms vary between individuals but I'm anxious and seeking some clarity.

  • Hi Rayray87

    Welcome to the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear that you have had some bleeding and discharge.

My only symptom was a heavy bleed that came out of the blue.

The bleeding and discharge could have causes that are not cancer- especially at your age. Although younger ladies can have a diagnosis of endometrial cancer, it does tend to be more common in ladies that are post menopause.

It is understandable to be anxious when being referred for testing but what normally happens is that when there are unexplained symptoms for them to refer you to have further investigations. When this is done on an urgent referral it is to rule out the potentially more serious causes of symptoms first.

An ultrasound is normally the next step with your symptoms. It is likely to be an external tummy one and also an transvaginal one. For me it was slightly uncomfortable, but not painful. The ultrasound will be able to pick up on any polyps/cysts etc and also be able to check the thickness of your womb lining. This should give a better idea of what is happening.

The speed of this happening will depend on whether it has been done on an urgent or routine referral. An urgent/cancer pathway one would aim to be done within 2 weeks. A routine referral would depend on how busy your local area is and can vary.

Hope this helps. If you want to talk it through with someone, then please do give the Support Line a call.
