I don't know how I feel really, but confused. Feel wimpy that the Dr advised stopping doing the hysteroscopy a couple of days ago - after the initial go, because he said it showed polyps that needed removing and that it would get more painful with a larger hysteroscope but ' it was my choice' (Ultrasound showed uterus lining was 5.7 mm, which I realise isn't huge) He offered me a general anaesthetic when I arrived at the outpatient appointment, but because I had been worried about it since the appointment was booked the previous day, I thought I'd try and get it over with and stop the worrying.
The ultrasound biopsy had come back as insufficient and I'd been booked straight in for the hysteroscopy as a result (the efficiency is good, if also worrying)
Any advice please?
Hi Firtree welcome to the forum. Sorry, I'm in the anaesthetic camp as trying to have that done without it doesn't bear thinking about..When you are asleep they can get a good look around and you feel nothing. You may have bleeding afterwards as I did but it settles. Personally and it is very much a personal choice I'd consider a general anaesthetic and I went home the same day.
Failed hysteroscopy under local, a breeze of a hysteroscopy under general. Walked down to the theatre at 10am, was awake again by 11am and went home at midday. An absolute doddle.
Oh that's really good to know, thank you so much!
My first hysteroscopy was with a local and it failed, although I didn't mind the nitrous oxide during the procedure! I'd definitely recommend a general anaesthetic. You don't know what's happening and the surgeon can just get on with things and it's over nice and quick.
I had 4 before I had my hysterectomy and I was home within a few hours each time.
As I've just mentioned on another thread, bear in mind that you'll need someone to take you home after a GA - you have to have someone with you and wont allow you to drive for 24 hours afterwards....
Ah thanks, I live alone, so that's a consideration
You should be able to request hospital transport or could order a taxi! Or could go home by public transport.
