Hi, Iv my first Brachytherapy appointment tomorrow at 9am. Had a full hysterectomy a few weeks back and having 3 lots just as a precautionary measure.

I got a phone call last Wednesday saying I had an appointment tomorrow at 9 but will get a letter through the post.

Not received a letter tho so was wondering is there anything I should do or take with me tomorrow?

Are you ok to eat and drink as normal beforehand?

My letter will probably arrive when I get home from the appointment lol

  • Hi is it your planning appt or the first treatment - i also have my first appt tomorrow but its with the clinical oncologist, then a meeting with the radiotherapy consultant will be fixed and then after that will have the first treatment. My hysterectomy was 10th sept. Great news if you are already at treatment stage - i really keen to get mine done

  • Hi I had an appointment last Monday at the hospital and they told me I’d need 3 lots of treatment over 2 weeks. The nurse said it would probably be 4-6 weeks till I got an appointment for treatment.

Two days later I got a phone call to say my appointment was tomorrow.. which was a surprise as thought I had a few weeks before it started… good tho I guess to get it started and over with sooner rather than later Grinning

They said I’d get a letter beforehand when they rang last week but not had a one ..

Tomorrow I’m getting measured for the rods I think and the first treatment .

Had my hysterectomy the end of August.

Hope you are well Heartpulse x

  • Some hospitals do the planning appointment first (includes mini CT) and then have separate appointments for the treatments, others combine the planning appointment and the first treatment. At my hospital I first of all had a chat appointment where the treatment was explained, I was given my dilators and had a chance to ask questions. A week later I had my mini planning CT and then I had my first session the following week and my second session the week after that. My hospital doesn’t require empty bowel before mini CT or treatment so I just did everything as normal.

  • Aww thank you for that Smile

Last week I just spoke with the doctor who said I’d need a CT and to be measured and 3 treatments over 2 weeks.

Tomorrow is a different part of the hospital so I think I’m getting my first treatment.

The letter will probably explain more info .. just a shame it will arrive after my appointment instead of before.

Someone mentioned taking a dressing gown … not sure if you need to tho as it was just a friend who mentioned it as she had treatment a few years ago.

  • Hi do you have the NHS app? Sometimes i get letters there or via text before they come via post; am glad you haven’t had to wait too long for the appointment

  • It could just be that the brachytherapy suite is in a different part of the hospital. I had my initial brachy chat in a side room at the brachy suite, which was next to the CT room. For both my mini CT and my treatment I just changed into a hospital gown, no need for a dressing gown as the room was warm and the treatment only 6 mins,

  • Ohhh I do .. never thought of that Smile thank you x

  • Thank you Blush didn’t fancy taking it as just extra to carry to be honest so I’ll not bother.
Im at James Cook as live in Durham.

  • I have the NHS app and the hospital app but none of my treatment appointments showed on there. I was given my brachytherapy appointments on the weekly sheet with my radiotherapy appointments.

  • I’m so pleased you suggested the NHS app as just been on and Iv another appointment this Thursday as well as tomorrow hopefully I can get a lift there at such short notice .. the last appointment is next Tuesday as well.

    Thank you again Grinningx
