Confused - Inconclusive

Hi there,

I am looking for some advice?

I had some bleeding last year I'm 55 years old and my GP said he would refer me, my first hysteroscopy they found a polyp, then informed me that this would be removed. After a lot of cancelled appointments and mix ups due to me wanting next procedure done under general anaesthetic I finally had polyp removed they also did another biopsy. I got a telephone call to meet with a consultant who informed me the biopsy results were inconclusive and he would recommend a hysterectomy given my age symptoms being overweight etc. I now have a further biopsy booked in 2 weeks time. I asked the consultant if the results came back inconclusive again would he's still recommend the hysterectomy, he said yes.

He also recommended coming off HRT.

Just trying to get my head round this.

He said I could call him if I have any questions, what kind of questions should I be asking?

Any help would be appreciated

  • Hi GFmum

    Welcome to the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear of your bleeding and inconclusive biopsy results after the polyp removal.

I would start by asking something along the lines of these questions...........

    - Was the biopsy of the polyp or did it include the womb lining

    - is there any thickening of the womb lining (hyperplasia)

-if there is some hyperplasia- what is the thickness and is it typical or atypical.

    - Why is he recommending coming off HRT

-Now that the polyp has been removed, is it possible to have another

    - If you have a hysterectomy is it likely to be keyhole surgery and what would the recovery be like for you

-is there any risks involved in either having the hysterectomy or not having the hysterectomy

    -when would it be done

-is there any other treatment that could be used instead- eg mirena coil and repeat hysteroscopies.

-what would he recommend if it was a relative.

    Hope this helps a bit

    Jane
