Hi all,

Has anyone had experience with a port for their chemo? A couple of failed attempts at a PICC line (my previous one fell out!) and my last peripheral cannula tissues which resulted in a swollen hand, which now improving. I have missed a dose of one of my chemo drugs carboplatin. They are having a MDT discussion and seeing the consultant on Tuesday.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Best wishes

  • Hi Anna

I am sorry to hear that you have had issues with a PICC line and also cannula.

I have found some info on ports for chemo that may be helpful.

I hope the MDT can reach a decision and that your appointment goes well on Tuesday. Hopefully your chemo will be able to continue very soon. I know it is a worry with chemo when things don't go quite to plan. Please do give the Support Line a call if you feel chatting things through would help.

  • Hi

A portacath is an imbedded port just under skin on your chest and they use a special needle to access it for bloods out and chemo in. It may be worth asking your oncologist whether your case would be suitable.

It does require a vascular surgery to implant and maybe only worth it if long chemo treatment period.

  • Hi all x happy weekend.

Just a quick question. Has anyone had experience of having further sessions of chemo after post treatment CT scan?

    Best wishes
