support ligaments of the womb

Hi All, I've been given a lot of information in paper form about the surgery.  It will be a hysterectomy with removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. Yesterday I spoke to the anaesthetist who said they would remove everything and job done. No need to stitch support ligaments to the vagina as described. Apparently nothing will roll around inside apart from the bowels which will just spread out and drop to the bottom (my words now). With an already prolapsed bladder I'm not feeling comfortable right now. Any experiences anyone?

  • My hysterectomy was in January 2022 at age 62. Two and a half years down the line I have absolutely no issues in that area. I’d say yes that’s what happened with my bowels, as I can wake in the morning and think I may need a poo, and yet when I get up and walk around I don’t need to go till later on. Re my bladder, if anything I find I can hold on for longer since having had the op. I started gentle pelvic floor squeezes about a week after surgery, and, because I had brachytherapy, I used a dilator or vibrator after treatment and I’d say the vibrator especially helped tone things.

  • aha, I'm a bit out of sync... never expected that to be an option. I need to look up brachytherapy as well

  • Teutonin, I was predicted grade 1 stage 1, and no adjuvant treatment needed, but post op histology revealed a few stray cancerous cells on top of my cervix, so it changed to stage 2, with adjuvant radiotherapy and brachytherapy being offered as “belt and braces”.

  • understood, makes sense Marmite
