Hello my Hysteroscopy and biopsy was done on Friday, and i was told after that things were abnormal and they would try to get the results by the end of this week. I am just wondering how it is decided if a nurse practitioner rather than a consultant does the hysteroscopy? The nurse led team were amazing so no complaints at all, but as my ultrasound report included a line about strong characteristics of cancer, i guess i thought i might have seen the consultant this time. So just a query about whether this is just how the clinic dates worked out?
Hi Tangle123
At my hospital all the outpatient hysteroscopy/biopsies are done by the nurse team- they have the specific training to do it. My understanding was that if I needed a general anaesthetic then that would be the consultant.
My results from my ultrasound showed something- but they weren't sure what it was and I was called by the nurse team who arranged for a biopsy the following day. Although the nurse team did the biopsy, all the results from all the tests were put to the Multi disciplinary team - that includes the consultants- for diagnosis and next steps.
I hope that you do not have to wait too long for your results. Mine came back around a week later.
In the meantime if there is anything you need, please do ask. If talking things through would help, then please do give the Support Line a call. The details are below.

Hi, my hysteroscopy and biopsy was done by a nurse led team. I got a call the following week with a hospital appointment for the next morning where I met the consultant who confirmed a cancer diagnosis and next steps.
I hope you don’t have to wait too long for your results, waiting is hard.
Hello Tangle123,
In Scotland my area is the West Lothian, you are seen each time by the consultant gynaecologist first appointment was with a consultant who wanted me to do the Hysteroscopy/Biopsies there and then which I did with his nursing team helping him and myself with moral support and a very kind hand to hold, unfortunately he was up to the job (as I am obese ) but he mentioned another consultant that's great with fat women lol, so around a week or two weeks later I had another appointment with a female consultant Dr Rose, she is actually brilliant and empathetic and so were her team of two nurses, anyway legs up and out no use being embarrassed it's got to be done even though this was my second without going to theatre, Yes it was uncomfortable but to wait longer for theatre and then results takes the control away from me longer. So Doctor Rose managed to get the biopsies but said " everything looked healthy and didn't crumble away like the polyps usually do when cancer was suspected, unfortunately two weeks later it's the information no one wants to hear Cancer early stage, that was the November got my appointment for removal of my polyps under general anaesthetic for either 22nd or 23rd December 2022 saying I would be cancer free for the New Year unfortunately the Gynaecologist was the first consultant and he couldn't do the job my polyps were still in, fortunately Dr Rose had taken an interest in me and seen that the job in hand wasn't done so Doctor Rose offered to do the job on the 5th January 2023 at lunch time with her lovely team, I bought them chocolates and wine as we were so grateful they were giving up there lunch hour for me, Unfortunately this time (4th) was really uncomfortable and painful and she was going to stop but I said " NO CHANCE KEEP GOING ITS GOING TO BE WORTH IT" so Doctor Rose removed the polyps and put the coil in exactly were the cancerous polyp was and end of that path.
In February 2023 I think I was then transferred to the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh were the robotic Consultant was because I was obese he didn't want to put me at risk of not getting off the table as my weight was160.7kg eventually within the year my weight was down to 140.7 and Cancer Buddy was ready to be extracted although he warned me if he couldn't reach all the bits he would stop and wait until I would lose more weight fortunately he done the job although it was more complicated/complex than usual as I had very large fibroids and I was just a knock or door step from needing a blood transfusion. The job was done and now I am cancer free,.
So I wish you all the luck in the world and you two might get the same result, Myself and hubby lived with worry and uncertainty for two years about cancer buddy now we are free to move on.
Hi Tangle
Am sorry to hear that it is cancer. How are you feeling today?
Even when it is expected it can feel hard to hear the words. A scan is the normal thing to happen now as they are pinpointing where the cancer is exactly and that will help decide on treatment. Most women are offered a hysterectomy and I am sure the consultant will be able to go through things in more detail on Monday. I actually felt a bit better for knowing for sure what i was dealing with and what lay ahead.
The Support Line is there if you need to talk things through at anypoint.

Hi thanks for asking - i am ok but worried that it has spread. Trying to plan a holiday pre hysterectomy and before my daughter leaves for university. We supported my sister through stage 4 breast cancer until she passed in January this year, so of course that is on our minds although logically do know its quite different.
I understand. I think it is one of the first worries I had when diagnosed- has it spread. The MRI will show exactly where the cancer is and hopefully on Monday you will have a predicted stage and grade and will find out about a hysterectomy. That's not too much longer to wait. Maybe have a look around for the holiday and then by Monday there should be a clearer plan.
I am sorry to hear about your sister and naturally it must bring back memories. Please do give the Support Line a call if you need to. They are lovely on there.
Good Luck to your daughter for next week for her A Level results.
