I am 47, I have always suffered from extremely heavy periods, so i have tried the coil, currently taking the mini pill along with Medroxyprogestorone, Things changed in February this year when I had a massive bleed that continued and had 2 weeks off from work. I have continued to bleed/spot on a daily basis.
I have recently had a Pelvic scan which came back abnormal showing 16mm endometrial thickness along with a 68mm fibroid. I have also had a hysteroscopy with a Pipelle Biospy, currently waiting on the results.
My worry is that after al this suffering on a daily basis that is affecting my daily life & work if the biopsy came back normal? My consultant did advise that we can consider a hysterectomy. I didn't realise I was stressing or having anxiety until i am constantly my NHS app and googling everything.
Does anyone have any advice that is going through this to?
Thanks
Hi PAMP
Googling is natural as you want to get information and want to know what is going on. It's not always great though as although it can give some information it is not always the most reliable and it does not know anything about your own medical details.
You have done the right thing in being checked and the bleeding sounds very hard to manage.
It is good that the consultant is considering a hysterectomy and it is definitely something to look into if the biopsy comes back as clear. Both fibroids and hyperplasia (thickened lining) can cause the bleeding you are having. Only the biopsy will confirm whether there are any cancer cells present.
If it turns out that you are clear on the cancer then there may well be other treatments that can be offered if you do not want to have a hysterectomy. However my hysterectomy was very straightforward, I had little pain and recovered quickly.
How long you wait for the biopsy results can vary- mine was about a week but I think that I was lucky. It can depend on your hospital and how busy they are. How long you wait does not have any bearing on whether it is good or bad news.
If you do not hear within the next couple of weeks there is no harm in giving your hospital a call. I found trying to carry on with my day to day stuff and keeping busy was the best plan. its not easy and naturally it is on your mind. If talking things through would help, then perhaps give the Support Line a call. The details are below.
I hope you do not have to wait too much longer but we are here in the meantime if you need us.

Jane has been much nicer about this but i will just say: DON’T GOOGLE. If Google was a doctor, he/she would be struck off. And it won’t do you any good whatsoever. Try and focus on what is known NOW, TODAY, and distract yourself with hobbies, work, anything. For me it was word games on my iPad and getting out for walks and focussing on nature.
1 week today. I'm not too sure on how long the results normally take? I've read there can be 1 week up to 4? Hopefully not the latter.
