Hysterectomy done by robot!

Wow not even a month from diagnosis on the 3rd July and my hysterectomy was done on Thursday! A 3 hour operation and according to my consultant it has gone well and he is pleased. I had some pain and was on Diamorphine for most of my hospital stay. One night! I was very ill without my normal meds and wasn't allowed my usual sleeping tablets until 2am when they have me 0.5 of a mg! I have bipolar and they didn't seem to realise that sleep was essential to my wellbeing. This was and is ongoing very difficult to catch up with sleep and get the pain meds and the self injections for DVT all done at the right time. I'm so confused. Luckily I have a friend/neighbour who came to help me yesterday. She fed me bone broth and lovely bread and butter. She did my washing up and took my dirty washing away to clean. She herself is disabled/ partially sighted registered blind. But she does all this for me. I really feel like I should have some kind of home help. My friend is lovely doing this for me but I feel so guilty. I can't stop her she is coming back tomorrow even though she works full time.

I have a boyfriend who lives 45min away but although he can cook for me on the weekend...he is pretty useless all round. Good thing is tho he is looking after my babies...two Staffies who after a couple of weeks recovery will be my carers.

I have had dreadful constipation with the pain meds and am desperate to go for a poo.

My GP is brilliant and is getting some different pain meds and some other laxatives sent to me today via the pharmacist delivery service.

I hope all is well for everyone on here and I am thankful for my amazing fast treatment by the NHS. My consultant hopes that the cancer was contained within the endometrium and that there is no spread.

Best wishes

  • Hi shiqween

I am pleased to hear that your operation went well as for staff understanding pain and regular medications it's a total joke that's not even laughable if you read about my experience post operative then you will find that you are definitely not alone believe you me.

It is also good that you have such a great friend which is hard to come bye sometimes if she didn't want to help you I am sure she wouldn't so let her help without you feeling guilty.

Good luck with your biopsy results mine was everything I could have wanted after two years living with my cancer buddy as I was informed I was cancer free I wish you all the best for the same result xx

    Take care Williamina

  • Hi Shiqween

Am glad to hear that you have had your surgery and are home to recover.

Sounds like your neighbour is being lovely in offering some support. You shouldn't feel guilty- everyone needs a bit of support at times and when you are well, it may be that there will be a time when you can return the favour. I found that most people do genuinely want to help. It is hard though sometimes to accept you need a bit of help when you are normally independent.

Glad that your GP is sorting the pain meds and constipation. A lot of ladies do find they get some constipation for the first few days especially if they have needed the stronger pain relief. I found once I started to eat more normally and was able to move around- things got moving again. I found apple juice and orange juice helped me.

I wish you well for your continued recovery and if there is anything you need then please do ask. I hope that the post op results don't take too long to come back.

  • Dear Wlliamima.

Thank you so much for your kind reply, I am lucky to have friends like her that is for sure. I am gradually getting back to normal (whatever that is) with my bipolar meds...I also read that if the take lymph nodes...which they have there is a great possibility of menopause symptoms all over again...ooooh.

Still mustn't grumble...I'm alive! Luckily my work as an artist is my motivation and of course my dogs are my life.

Luck must be on our side when we are survivors.

Thank you again and take care of yourself.

    Best wishes

  • Dear Jane,

Thank you for your advice and support Pray tone2  I feel like I'm getting a huge hug when I come on here. I am also so lucky to have brilliant friends and neighbours...all totally willing to help me even though they have problems of their own.

My dogs are what I miss the most, but I just can't manage them at the moment. After a couple of weeks I may feel stronger Muscle tone2 .

I have some shopping being delivered today and that will be all my healthy normal food. I know that will help with the bowels too.

I hope you are keeping well and thanks again for writing to me.

    Best wishes

  • I can understand you missing your dogs but hopefully by this time next week you will feel a lot stronger and it could be that if someone can walk them- you would be ok. I suppose it's how energetic they are. Are you able to facetime them? Then you'll be able to see that they are doing ok.

I know my cats were a great company for me and also a good motivator if I was having a bad day- they helped me stick to the routine of feeding etc.

Rest up and take time to recover

  • Ooooh that's a good idea ...I will try facetime with them this evening. I didn't think of that. My friend came round with some lovely magazines and made me coffee...so I feel much better.

    Thank you
