Hiya I was diagnosed with Aytipical Hyperplasia in June and now have to have a hysterectomy. I had my pre op assessment on Friday but still haven’t been given a date. I’ve suffered from really heavy periods for years and at 55 I was hoping they would be coming to an end but it seems not. I have a great family and friends support. My sister had womb cancer in 2019 so I think that’s why they want me to have a hysterectomy. I feel so alone and I am so worried about the surgery and the recovery

  • Hello Y12

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of atypical hyperplasia in June. It must have been draining to cope with such heavy periods for so long.

My hysterectomy was done in April 2022 and was for endometrial cancer. I was worried when I was told about the surgery but I also wanted it done. The actual surgery was laparoscopic and was straightforward. I recovered well and had little pain. I was in hospital for one night before returning home to recover. It was a case of resting up and not over doing things.

There is a link here to some information.

Do not feel alone- it is hard when you are told that you need surgery but most ladies on here will have had a hysterectomy as part of their treatment so they will want to offer you support. Is there anything in particular that worries you about it?

I am sorry to hear about your sister's womb cancer. I hope she has recovered and is doing well.

I will pop a link here with some info about the hyperplasia that may help explain the reasons for the hysterectomy. Do not be afraid to ask your hospital team though if you want to know more why they have suggested it in your particular case.
