Are there any larger ladies that can reassure me about my upcoming surgery. After losing over 3 stone I finally have date for surgery on the 24th. The consultant said it may be tricky because I still have a large tummy. I’m now just over 16 stone and she made me feel like I was extraordinarily large. Said it may be converted to open surgery if it proves too difficult. Any tips or surgery stories are welcome. Thanks.xxx
Wow you’ve done so well with your weight loss! Am similar weight but 5ft 9- no discussion about weight but warned laprascopic may not be possible as no children and shape of womb. Examined me after epidural and told it would be abdominal. It really wasn’t that bad. In 2 nights but up and walking next day and soon out and about walking when I got home. Apparently had fibroids and womb large so couldn’t have been done.
from reading others on forum I don’t think my recovery was any slower - hope that helps.
Hi NannyBear, I too am a large lady (17st 5lbs) and am waiting for a date for my hysterectomy so I will be following your post closely. When I saw my Consultant and she gave me the cancer diagnosis she too said it may be converted to open. She didn’t make me feel it would be a problem though. It depends on my scan results as to whether I have my operation at that hospital or not. Obviously if not then I haven’t yet met the surgeon who will be doing it so hoping they are as nice as she was. My case is further complicated by a large abdominal incisional hernia. Well done on your weight loss. 3 stone loss is fantastic.
Take care.

I’m a similar weight and my surgery was a laparoscopy, the surgeon didn’t mention my weight at all. It was explained I might need abdominal surgery as being larger but didn’t need it. I was in 2 nights due to other health issues but recovered well and felt able to do so much by about 4 weeks.
One thing that should reassure you is that the whole team will know what is best for you and always have your best interest at heart.
Im now 1 year post surgery and I feel fine, I had a check up yesterday which was a little uncomfortable but everything is fine and don’t need to be seen for another 6 months. I have some bladder issues but nothing to worry about.
It’s easy to say you’ll be okay but that’s from those of us who’ve been there, the anxiety and stress is all part of it. This is a step towards the end of your cancer journey.
Wishing you an easy procedure and recovery
Linda
I was 15st when I had my hysterectomy and my BMI was 35. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy without any issues.
