I am 65 and recently had an internal scan as I’ve had some cyclical episodes of occasional post menopausal bleeding for the last 3 months.
I am having a hysteroscopy on Monday.
Today I received the letter from the consultant following my internal scan. He explained at the time that I had a polyp and an endometrial lining that was thicker than he would like. I deliberately didn’t ask him how thick as I’ve been on Google (I know….!) and am aware of the measurements and risks with thickened lining and cancer.
The letter says I have a heterogeneous thickened endometrium measuring 20mm. I think this is pointing towards endometrial cancer and now I’m petrified!
Hi Wise Owl 2
Welcome to the Online Community and the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear of your bleeding and hyperplasia. (thickened endometrium) I understand why you are worried but please try not to panic too much yet and wait for the results from Monday. When they do they hysteroscopy they normally do a biopsy at the same time and this is the only thing that will tell for sure whether or not there are any cancer cells present. Hyperplasia in its self can have different causes and womb cancer is only one of them.
I would advise staying off google as its not always reliable and it does not know your personal medical history or have all the facts.
I will pop some links here for you.

Feeling scared is a very normal thing and if talking it through would help, then please do give the Support Line a call. The number is below.
I wish you well for Monday and hope that your results come through quickly. I personally found the testing and waiting for results hard and once I did have the results (although not what I was hoping for) and had a treatment plan- I did feel a bit calmer and things felt more under control.
If there is anything you need or want to ask, then please do so
Jane
Thank you so much for your reply! The links are really helpful. As you say it’s this waiting that is so difficult, but once I have definite answers I think it will take all the guessing away.
I hope you are doing well yourself!
