I had a polyp removed and biopsies on 13th May, under the 2 week pathway, after an internal scan showed 'suspected endometriol cancer' (on my referral note) with a 1.9 mm thickened endometrium and fluid filled areas.
I was told 4-6 weeks for the results and the 6 weeks is up on Monday. I go on holiday today and I really thought I would know, one way or the other, but no. I rang the GP on Tuesday and they said to just wait. I rang the Gynae secretary on Thursday and explained the situation, to be told 'We are short staffed' but she would check and ring me back. She didn't. I am now about to go on my holiday and I'm very upset. I just wish I knew. And I'm fed up of friends and relatives saying 'Well they would've got in touch sooner if it was bad news'. That's not really the case is it? Sorry, just really needed to offload here as I'm trying to have my 'positive and happy' face on for the family to not detract from the holiday. Thanks for listening.
Hi Misscrisps
I am really sorry that you have had to wait for your results and I understand that you really wanted to know before your holiday.
From my experience, the length of time that it takes for the results to come through has no bearing on whether they are good or bad. Its just sometimes the hospital pathology lab can be busy and they just have backlogs etc. Once they have done what they need to, the results are passed to one of the clinicians for review. It is at this point that they can pass them to you.
With it being 6 weeks on Monday I would expect you to be contacted very soon, perhaps while you are away. I know it is hard to focus on much else while you are waiting for them, but try to relax and enjoy your holiday, knowing that it shouldn't be much longer to know for sure. While you are away, there would be no harm in contacting GP online and asking if they can contact you - and how you would like to be contacted- while you are away.
I hope that you have a good holiday, even though you have this hanging over you. And please do continue to get support from Macmillan while you are away.
Jane
Same here really sorry you've had to wait. I agree with Jane the length of time you have to wait can feel like forever and doesn't affect the out come. From my own experience when I had my Hysteroscopy it was 4 days before Christmas and would be 4 week waiting time plus Christmas on top of that. They have to look at every single millimetre on each slide they create to make sure. For me I got a call on 9th Jan ( 4 weeks later) to come in to discuss my results. So my instincts told me it wasn't a fibroid which is what they initially expected. All I kept telling myself was I can't change what's happened, it is what it is and what ever the result I will move forward and deal with the next step one at a time. They'll be really thorough before they send the details through. Try and enjoy your break. I'm now out the other side thankfully. Message me if you want more info once you have your results. Jo Xx
