Any advice on shaving your head please don't really want to go to the hairdressers I live near a mc millan support center which I've joined up with wondering if they can help?
Hi Knittynanna
I got my husband to shave the little hair I had after my first & only chemo session. It was an easy decision for me, I know it’s not for everyone.
I was fitted with a wig but decided not to wear it too often. My hair grew back in fairly quickly and now I have what’s called ‘chemo curls’.
As it was in the winter months I bought a few cheap hats to wear or just went out bareheaded.
Shaving your head is a difficult decision to make for some people and you need to be prepared to have no hair for approximately 6 months.
There is no McMillan centre anywhere close to where I am and it’s possible that they would do it for you, my philosophy is ask them - the worst they can say is no and point you in the right direction of someone who will do it for you.

Thanks Linda,my neighbours daughter has offered to shave it for me..you've just answered questions for me too..about hair regrowth so thanks again

Hi Knittynanna
I see you have got someone to do this now, but just wanted to send a hug. I know it is tough.
I used scalp cooling so kept some but lost some. My regrowth started around 6 weeks post chemo and it did come in fast once it had started. I reckon 4-5 months and I started to look and feel better.
Jane
Thank you for the hug Jane just need a few head coverings now x
I bought some pretty scarves from amazon that were pre- tied and they had longer bits at the sides. I found jersey fabric easiest. I had a wig but didn't like it. It's about finding out what is best for you. I found that my scalp could be tender when I was shedding hair and used a silky pillow case. There are also some soft jersey beanies that some people recommend. Although I scalp cooled, I still lost a fair bit and had everything on standby so I was prepared. My hair is back to how it was before chemo and possibly thicker and better condition.
Thanks Jane.. do you have a link to the scarves?I bought a Jersey beanie but finding it a bit warm in this heat
If you go to amazon and type "chemo scarves for women" there are lots that come up. My chemo took place summer 2022 and there was a bit of a heat wave so I know what you mean
