Hi I had full hysterectomy, 20 May , I phoned the consultants secretary to ask if any response from histology , the secretary informed me the results were “pending”., then shesaid consultant has 2 week annual leave , and I have to wait until the consultant returns . I asked if anyone else could tell me , and was told no , I am struggling with anxiety around this , how long has anyone else waited for lab results?
Hi Tanyard
The waiting is tough. I waited 3 1/2 weeks for mine and it may have been a bit longer if I hadn't kept chasing them.
It is frustrating to be told that they are pending and the consultant is on annual leave- I wonder if that might be that the pathology has come back but it now needs to be discussed with the consultant at a multi disciplinary team meeting. This would seem to be a normal thing to happen. At the meeting they would look in detail at the whole picture before deciding whether to recommend any further treatment etc. It could be that actually if you were told the results over the phone- that on their own it is not that helpful- as it what the results mean for you that are important. I would imagine that your consultant would personally want to be involved with the decisions.
Your anxiety is totally normal- I found it really hard to wait each week and you just want to know them and whether more treatment is necessary. However if they do tell you them over the phone, then you are likely to naturally have lots of follow up questions- we all would- but without the discussion and interpretation from your consultant- they would not necessarily be able to help.
I wonder if your GP may have some access to the results- although again- it might not help if they have not yet gone through the MDT.
I am sorry you are having to wait.
Jane
Hello sorry to read this I know how you feel as mine was in the middle of Easter weekend and my consultant was on leave plus it missed the MDT so the nurse spoke to the team and they agreed to call me as son as they were in I think it was over 4 weeks as I was very anxious. They arranged for a registrar to call me which she did but as it was before the MDT she gave a different outcome to treatment ( wed) and so she had arranged ti call me on the Friday after MDT with any difference which there was but the stage was the same just less treatment than she thought. Just ring and be pushy and say you cannot wait I also rang his secretary to tell her I was struggling so they did all help xx good luck
Hi Tanyard,
I had my hysterectomy on the 20th May also, I received a call on Friday 7th June from the gynae clinic saying my results were in and making an appointment for next Friday 14 th June to share them. So it will be 25 days between the operation and the results appointment.
I knew that my MDT met every Thursday so I had planned to ring Friday morning, but in the event they rang me first.
I’m hoping that the fact that they are leaving a week between knowing the results and the appointment means that they are in no particular hurry to see me and that means I won’t need further treatment! Maybe a naive hope but a girl can dream.
Best wishes
Flatlander
Hi Flat lander , thanks for talking to me , you are in the same place as me , ( anxiously waiting ) which hospital are you under , I Am under Derby Royal , I phoned today and spoke to a specialist nurse , their meetings are Thursday as well , the nurse said she would try to make me appointment on the 19 th June , I am waiting to hear , I will phone the nurse again tomorrow , keep in touch x
Thanks I will keep phoning the hospital, I phoned today and spoke to a specialist nurse , who said she would try to make an appointment for me when the consultant is back from leave , what was your outcome how are you ?x
Hi can you try the secretary saying you are anxious I just checked I had to wait 5 weeks and that was awful ! It would have been the following week if I waited for consultant to return so in the end I didn’t see him as the registrar told me over the phone.
I was stage 1a grade 3 which they thought but the adenocarcinoma was mixed with some clear cell which I was worried about but they said they got it all out and hardly was in the myometrium and if it hadn’t gone in slightly I would have no further treatment but as it did I had 3 bracytherapy sessions finished 3 weeks ago tomorrow !
I wish you all the very best it’s a horrible time and only now am I processing as diagnosed 1/2/24 and full robotic op at Christie hospital was 29/2/24 xx ️
