I have had a hell of a time the operation became complex and lasted four half five hours why I know this is that my hubby got worried after three three half hours as no phone call he was told I was still in theatre and they would call once in recovery at the five hour mark hubby got a phone call from the surgeon stating that I had lost a lot of blood and was just shy of a blood transfusion, that thinks had become complex due to problems getting my womb out due to unexpected large fibroids plus issues elsewhere, I have a large incision across my stomach with over 20 staples, the surgeon didn't want me getting open surgery as he said I wouldn't come off the table alive.

In recovery I remember begging for someone to help me with pain in my shoulders especially my right shoulder I even said please listen / here me the pain is excruciating (and it was and still is) yes I was in pain the next day but I dragged myself out of bed and got a shower and sat up for a wee while in the chair ( the cover consultant was amazed and said "try not to do to much") I was worried about chest infections.

Anyway I had to go for a X-ray yesterday as the pain is a 10 plus on my right shoulder plus pain not as bad about 7 or 8 along longest incision and lots of cramps with gases.

  • Hi

Did the xray help identify the cause of you pain?

I am wishing you some much deserved relief and rest.

  • Hi WILMA 08,

You've really been through it. Hope the pain starts to ease very soon and the x-ray is helpful.

Sending you very best wishes for your recovery.

    Rose x

  • Hi CrumptOrtoast

I don't get the result until this week.

It was horrendous I nearly passed out with the pain and I felt embarrassed as I burst out crying like a wuss, this weekend has been the worse for cramps I have taken Buscapan and Mefenamic Acid my Oxycoden slowtec was increased from 30mg to 45mg twice a day the Oxycoden shortec 10mg increased to 20mg plus I have to take the Oxycoden 5mg X4 I also have baclofen 10mg x 3 put up to 4 if needed plusmy other nerve reduction pain relief.

I get my staples out tomorrow 3rd June 24  instead of last Friday 31st May 24 these have started to get a little red and angry as Allistair could not get an appointment for the 31st May 24 he was told that clinic was full and I would have to wait until the Monday 3rd 24 or phone the hospital which I did and was told if I wanted to come down on the Saturday 24 then it would be done.

I just have to get on with things do some relaxation plus Allistair's has  been great thank god.as pain has been horrendous especially the cramps and bloating (did you have that ) it's really uncomfortable

    How are you doing?

  • Hi

I hope the staple removal has at least subsided one of your discomforts.

You definitely sound like you've got a lot going on and I keeping my fingers tightly crossed that recovery becomes easier for you very soon.

  • Staples out last Monday but I was given dressings to put on a couple bits now my longest wound is leaking blood about 1cm in so need to get in touch with GP practice through e consult not only that I had a urine infection with burning and discomfort down below so given oral thrush meds as well. Thanks for Ur kind words to everyone here

  • Thank you for your kind wishes xx

  • So pleased your staples are out and hope the wound sorts itself soon. You will have to be very careful not to overdo things (I managed to pop stitches when I had just a very minor surgery near a shoulder blade once reaching forwards in a way I shouldn't have done – couldn't believe the length of the stitch when I stupidly pulled it out, or how non-dissolvable it felt)

Urine infections and thrush on top of the leaky wound must be very annoying – very uncomfortable too. Hopefully that will resolve quickly now with the right meds.

    Take care, Wilma08. x

  • So sorry to hear you have had these problems after your surgery … I had mine in 23rd may and recovering slowly but surely although I did have a nasty urine infection by day 7 … just think we have to listen to our bodies and try to rest as much as possible … good luck with your recovery Heart️‍
