First chemo on Monday, just wondering  if anybody took knitting or embroidery  to their  chemo sessions?one nurse said I could but another told me not to,as I'm having a pic line put in,she said it could dislodge it

  • Hi Knittynanna

Why not take some and see how you feel when you are there.

I didn't have a pic line but had canula in back of my hand and that would have made knitting tricky- but I probably could have done it carefully.

I would have thought anything that helps pass the time and helps you relax is worth it.

I wonder if they are able to put a bit of tape on the pic line to keep it a bit out of the way.

    Good Luck for Monday

    Jane

  • Hi Jane

Thank you, makes sense doesn't it I might just take a bit of embroidery, she did say that they give you a waterproof patch for when you have a shower,so maybe  they can do that..fingers crossed!hope alls well with you?

  • When I was in there was a lady at the same time who had like a patch on her chest but also like a stretchy thing on her arm. I am sure there is a way around it. Maybe take a book or magazine so you have something else in case its tricky or not comfortable. I took a few things in but found that the piriton made me sleepy so snoozed on and off a lot.

    Hope you get on ok.

I'm ok thankyou- currently on 12 weekly check ups- next one on the 11th.

  • To glad your being checked regularly.,glad you feel OK.. thanks for all your help xx

  • I went to my first chemo session with just my iPad and phone which was fine, except I let them put the cannula in my right arm (and I’m right handed which made using them a little difficult as i was told it’s best to keep the canulated arm as still as possible).  After that first session I put together a chemo day pack which I felt would work for me - chemo outfit (comfy clothes) small pillow, flip flops (so I could take my shoes off), small shawl/blanket (I’m nesh), water, snacks, mints, iPad, phone etc.  You’ll soon find what works for you.  Good luck x

  • That's great thank you so much I'm going to ask if they'll put the canula in my left arm as I'm right handed too x

    Hi

Being a fellow crafter, I think I would have found it difficult to do and keep the cannula safe. As it was I dislodged it once unplugging to go to the toilet. Very best wishes to you for tomorrow, hope all goes well.

  • Makes sense  really thank you x

  • Good luck, hope all goes well
