Hi
Well that's the operation done and dusted,
Personally i would NEVER GO THROUGH THIS TYPE OF OPERATION AGAIN. the operation turned out to be complex and took four half nearly five hours, I have 20 staples, the biggest being 13 across my stomach the rest between 2 or 3 as my womb was large to be taken through the vagina as I had large fibroids this was one of the issues that caused the operation to become complex/problematic as well as I having difficulty getting to small deeper parts scar tissue from previous operations this caused me to have lost a large amount of blood and apparently nearly causing a blood transfusion, so I now have to keep a check on my iron levels.
I would advise getting moving and showering the next day as soon as it is possible as it makes things so much better especially concerning health for example I felt glutei as if I might end up with a chest infection after a couple days that coughing and the Flem want away plus it also helps with preventing blood clots forming.
.It was also apparently difficult to move me around even when tipped upside down, as well as the extra time on the table this in turn excsabated my previous medical issues causing both shoulder's more on my right side to be horrendously painful and uncomfortable to use or move although my left shoulder was in the same situation it's calmed down slightly, unfortunately I am still unable to use them and meal times are embarrassing asi can't use the cutlery properly
I see myself lucky as doctor May (ROBODOC) went ahead and got on with the operation and thank goodness he did as for sure in fact 100% sure I wouldn't go back to get this done, as I remember in recovery pleading with them to help me with the pain in my shoulders and saying " Please Listen to me help me the pain is too much, please please help me "your not listening to me. !!!!
As for pain relief it was a joke and a none starter I had the morphine pump for 1 half days but nothing was helping me and I said that to the nursing staff but nothing done just didn't listen even my regular medications and insulin (1 once a day morning my main one 30 mine before food) were given at the wrong timescale; or not given at all like my semiglutide to be taken on a empty stomach that was offered after breakfast in fact the care was a poor standard, no help getting up or getting dressed which I need when my shoulders are painful and can't lift them samples of urine left after asking for them.
I am just so glad I am home and hubby is helping.
Hi Wilma,
Am sorry everything was so difficult and complex for you, but well done on getting through this!
Very pleased to hear that you are home now and that hubby is helping.
I have had problems when in hospital with the wrong medication being offered/given – nursing and healthcare staff kept muddling up my inhalers – they are not the common ones that people know and recognise more easily but even so! I remember I was fuming over it, so I can definitely sympathise with you there.
Sending good wishes that things improve for you soon. x
I would honestly say that the Medical /Clinical team were brilliant but the Nursing team left a lot to be desired actually there were
NO BASIC NURSING CARE. as for pain relief
it was a total joke I was asked my pain score god knows how many times then made to wait nearly an hour at times, I would be in horrendous pain across my shoulders especially my right shoulder which was a 10 ++ they think it was due to the positioning during the operation most times I was unable to life it and sitting crying it was that bad plus the bloating and cramps due to the gases was also around an 7 or 8.
The morphine pump was rubbish I did get oramorth I was promised by the consultant not to worry about pain medication as I would get anything I needed since I had fibromyalgia, multiple disc degeneration and arthritis. Well I can tell you that was ONE FAT LIE,
I could go on but what's the point THE NEW GENERATION OF NURSING ARE JUST NOT TAUGHT OR UP TO THE JOB.
I Remember when I was a nurse you would help moving a patient from a bed to a chair or help getting cloths on they don't even help with the preoperative TED stockings hubby done that.
This sounds very tough with all those co-morbidities Wilma 08 and with your having been a nurse it must have felt so much more frustrating.
I hope that awful pain is starting to settle now.
So lucky you had hubby to help with the stockings.
Arthritis and the other conditions you mentioned can all be very painful. So, with the op on top that must have been incredibly hard for you.
Sometimes when there is just a little swelling it catches a nerve – if there is any constipation or bloating, for example – and my pain gets so bad I can't concentrate to read. Thankfully, it does tend to pass eventually. I haven't had a hysterectomy yet, although it is an option that I have to consider now. (Have a history of fibroids and polyps)
I hope you are starting to get some better days. x
