Booked in for robotic surgery on 26th April for radical Hysterectomy and lymph node removal. Had anaesthetic previously but never had robotic surgery before. Anyone been through this, feeling a bit apprehensive

  • I am waiting for my robotic surgery sometimes the end of April 2024 unfortunately it's been a very long hall for me nearly two years of stress and worry for myself and family (daughter and in laws as my sister had passed with breast cancer a couple years before and my lovely brother in-law after 4/5 years throat cancer  has been cleared). as I am overly obese starting out with BMI 60 and my weight was 160.9kg and I was deemed as a high risk patient they didn't want to touch me even with the heavy bleeding and clots and pain,  my weight is now 140.7kg I have lost 3 Stone 1lb and about 4lbs since March 2024  hopefully by the end of April 2024 I will be below 138.7kg. Hope I won't need a central line and sent to ICU as advised by the anaesthetist to Mr May I know I will be in hospital for 3 to 4 days due to my well controlled diabetes and high blood pressure plus I am disabled with other medical issues,  another worry is that the consultant has said  the camera is going in first to make sure he can do the operation if any issues come up during then the operation will stop and he will wait until I lose more weight then another date will be given the plan is that if he is unable to complete the operation the second time then chemotherapy Radiotherapy and hormones will be within my care plan Mr May has said this has never happened before, (always a first time) one thing for certain there will be NO OPEN SURGERY AS HE FEELS I WOULDN'T COME OFF THE TABLE. Or my standard of living would be what it is today even though I am disabled.

Like you EDGECUMBE GIRL I am worried (worried is quite a strong word perhaps concerned)  but I was  glad the operation wasn't happening this week as my daughter is coming home for her 27th birthday from Southampton with her partner and we haven't seen her for nearly a year superficial I know but I miss my best pal lol.

Edgecumbe Girl I have no doubt you are in good hands and if you are unsure you can go over your care plan before your operation if you are unsure or don't understand something that can be cleared up before before you go ahead with things remember this is your health and your body and you and your families stress but at the end of the day this pain in the ass invader will be removed and any symptoms will eventually Thinkingsubside yes we will still be paranoid now in regards to our health but I am 61 years old in August 2024 none of my family mum dad sister have got past there 60's I plan to change that even thoh my disabilities do prevent me from certain things but this has shown me and my husband to live to the full and not to worry about trivial things anymore. So Edgecumbe I Thinking would look forward to this operation and do as required for recovery.

Please keep us informed regarding your journey before (hospital experience) and your recovery ALL THE BEST TO YOU BUT REMEMBER TO BE KIND TO YOURSELF DURING THIS TIME OF TRANSITION NOT ONLY TO OUR BODIES BUT TO OUR THOUGHTS AND MIND NEVER FORGET TO KEEP YOUR MENTAL HEALTH HEALTHY THROUGH TALKING TO OTHERS

  • Thanks for your response. I wish you lots of luck with your weight loss and hopefully you can have your surgery soon.

  • Hello I had mine 5 weeks ago and feeling so much better now, peppermint tea was good to help with any gas wind as you can feel sore due to this as they use it to inflate your tummy to get a good view and walking slowly about helped and drink lots of water, they said have lots to drink then go to the loo as gets you moving,  the nurse specialist said get some large granny knickers so they don’t go onto your scars, Blush they were good ha ha I had some comfy clothes ready for after like lounge wear and felt comfy with them, it was not as bad as I thought and was only overnight and home, they said to sleep if I can with a pillow under my knees I did some nights xx I hope it all goes well for you xx

  • Thanks for your response. Glad your op went well and thanks for the advice. I will make sure I take some peppermint tea bags in with me too.

  • Hi there,

Like one or two others here I had a robotic keyhole hysterectomy five weeks ago. It was a breeze - no pain other than constipation and I felt back to normal after two weeks. I held off on exercise until the follow up appointment last week, but am now back to usual routine. Good luck, hope all goes as well as mine did.

  • Thanks for your response, getting nearer to the date now and tbh I just want the whole thing over with. Im not too worried about the op its self, its what else they may find. I suppose I cant do anything about that so I am in their good hands and just hoping for a good outcome then I can get back to normality.  The only symptoms I had was a brown discharge, generally I feel very healthy except for backache so I find it quite scary that some people including myself never knew anything about Womb Cancer before this happened to me. I would like to see it highlighted more in the future - everyone seems to know about breast cancer but not much about Womb cancer.

  • That’s exactly what I have been saying !! No one talks about womb cancer or ovarian cancer it’s not right I wish I could start a campaign !! We need to raise awareness

to be honest I nearly left mine as I have had fibroid which was removed and grew back so when I bled I knew it  thought it was that it was only when one of my sons said mum you don’t look right your eyes aren’t right what’s wrong that I decided to go to see the GP next thing another hysteroscopy which I have has so many of and then diagnosed 1/2/24 all out by 29/2/24 like a whirl wind still in shock xx

  • I dont usually go to the docs as I dont like bothering them but in future I will be there if anything at all happens out of the ordinary. I was diagnosed on 13/2/24 and my op is not until 26/4/24, the waiting has really got to me, Ive tried to keep busy but some days it just gets to me and its hard. Thanks for your response, its good to know I am not alone on this journey xx

  • That’s a long wait isn’t it ! At least you are all booked in

did you say what grade it is ? And stage x

  • My staging  is Grade 1 tumour with Stage 2 in Pelvis area, hence the bad back ache. Dis cussed probable radiotherapy after the op depending on the results of the lymph node removal.
