After hysterectomy lower back pain

Hi,

I'm almost 8 weeks post my hysterectomy and have been back to work for a month now.

I think I recovered well and fairly quickly after my op and didn't seem to have any major issues, however in the last couple of weeks I've been getting a lot of lower back pain.

I'm not sure if I've maybe been overdoing it a bit too much or if it's because I wasn't as active during recovery, but wanted to see if anyone else experienced this, and what helped ease the pain?

Thanks

  • Hi Sots, I’m rather surprised that you returned to work so soon after your op as recovery period is usually at least 6-8 weeks. What job do you do, is it full or part time, and how much standing is involved? I’d personally suggest contacting your CNS as any new pain post op should be checked out. I suspect you may well have been overdoing things and that your return to work may have been a bit too soon,

  • Hi Sots,

I am 5 months post op and I am suffering badly with lower back pain, especially at night - what kind of a pain are you getting?

  • I work in recruitment but I work from home, so luckily not been going into the office.

I was advised to take between 4 and 6 weeks off and I went back a couple of days past 4 weeks.

Hopefully its just from sitting too much!

  • Hi,

Its just in the lower back. Its fine if I'm up walking about but like you at night or when I'm sitting it seems to be worse.

I have been using a hot water bottle which does ease it a bit. Its just annoying as I wanted to start some exercise but whenever I try my back just really starts hurting so I give up!

And then I start to worry it might be something worse again.

  • I am the same, it hurts when I sit to drive and keeps waking me at night. I am back exercising and wondered if it was that, but I haven't done anything since last Tuesday (due to family being with me for Easter) yet it has been worse, so pretty sure it isn't related. I totally understand what you mean about worrying it is something worse.

  • Hi Sots

Am sorry you are having some lower back pain.

I wonder if you may be doing a bit too much too soon. It may well be that you have been overdoing it a bit and recovery can take some time. I think with everything that happens internally during the surgery and where ligaments etc are cut, it is no surprise really that it can take time to recover. I remember my CNS saying it can take time to recover and regain core strength and that everything inside has to settle and adjust.

I would suggest getting checked to get some reassurance and particularly as this has come on in the last couple of weeks. This seems to be after you have been back at work for a couple of weeks so perhaps connected with that.

    Take care

    Jane

  • Thanks Jane. I'll see how it goes and if I'm still getting the pain I'll contact my doctor.

  • Hopefully its just from the exercise. Let me know if you mange to find anything that helps.

  • I ended up using ibuleve gel last night at around 2am and I could then sleep. I really don't think it is the exercise given my week off. I just read your profile and we have a lot of similarities.....

  • I just read your profile and yes very similar!
