Hi there,
Can those of you who have recently had the above let me know if you were allowed to watch the screen, that is if you wanted to at all?
Also, I guess it is case dependant, but does the person who completes the procedure tell you anything straight away?
If I ask them to tell me the size of the endometrium thickness, do you think they will tell me?
I am going private, not NHS. I saw the consultant Gyno Oncol chap last Thursday who said i need urgent ultrasounds and a hysteroscopy. What he did not tell me is that he is now on holiday until 4th April. I found this out from his secretary last Friday when I went to book in for the hysteroscopy. So the earliest he will see the results of the ultrasound is 4th April.
His secretary said last Friday that his first free slot is 21 April but she is working hard to try and get another consultant to give up their theatre time on either 6th or 7th April so my consultant can do the hysteroscopy sooner.
The 21st is 4 weeks away and then up to 2 weeks for the results. 6 weeks is such a long time to wait for results.
Hate this waiting game, good only knows what happens if you get a bad diagnosis. Your mind must go into overdrive.
And here I am whining about what could end up being nothing when so many of you are going through huge challenges. I apologise if I am sounding whiny, feeling a bit glum and getting nervous about tomorrow.
UPDATED 18/3/24
So just had the TV and abdominal ultrasound scans. Fella who did it was lovely as was the last chaperone. So he said ovaries look good with no cysts, said there is a little something on my cervix which might be a polyp but will need to wait for the hysteroscopy results. He was cagey with the thickness but he eventually said around 6mm but then said as I am on HRT the thickness will need to be interpreted by my consultant. I do not remember anything he said about the uterus as they were asking me loads of question about work and family, probably to keep me calm lol.
So, I now need to wait and must not start googling issues with cervix.
I rang my consultants secretary and told her what was said and said I really want the hysteroscopy asap. Just have to wait to hear back. I have said that I can attend a cancellation at the drop of a hat. For now it is pencilled in for 21st April.
Hi catsand trees
Good Luck for tomorrow.
I was allowed to watch the screen but it did not really help much as the images were really hard to interpret.
I wasn't told anything at the appointment and didn't ask. The radiographer was taking lots of images and measurements. At the end he said that he would be sending the images back to the consultant, that he himself would not be interpreting them and it would be the consultant who would be back in touch with what happened next. I did not ask about endometrial thickness.
I was seen at 5 on the Monday evening. The hospital rang on the Tuesday at about 10 am and said that something had been found. I was asked to come in on the Wednesday for a biopsy. On the Wednesday biopsy appointment I was told I would need a CT scan. This was done on the following Monday. I believe it was the Wednesday of that week that I got the news it was cancer via phone call. I did have the option of an appointment but thought it would be quicker via phone call and to be honest it wasn't a shock.
Hope this helps
Jane
Hi Jane, thank you for taking the time to reply. I am expecting them not to tell me anything. It won’t help at all with knowing the thickness as if it less than 5mm I might incorrectly reassure myself that everything will be ok. If it is thicker than 5mm I will probably tell myself that I am royally screwed!
To be honest, I do feel like I am going to get bad news at the end of all this. I haven’t told my husband as he does not want to hear anything negative at this stage.
I have had the post menopausal bleeding, which has stopped a week ago but have had cramping everyday since the bleeding stopped and have also had pain in my hips. Today I walked around Ikea and the pain in my right hip afterwards was pretty bad.
I want to be positive but if it was something as simple as a polyp why would I have pain, cramping and bleeding? But then again I am not a doctor so maybe it could be.
The issue with my results will be that even if there is something bad showing my consultant is away until 4th April so the results are just going to have to wait.
I wish you well and again thanks for replying. Maybe I will just lie back and think of england!
I had an NHS ultrasound to look at the inside of my uterus a couple of months back. They were looking for cancer as I had had some abnormal bleeding, but there was none fortunately. I was allowed to look at the screen - actually encouraged to. And they told me the thickness of my endometrium voluntarily. I had had another one three months earlier where they also let me look at the screen and told me the thickness of my uterine wall. Afterwards, on both occasions they showed me stills of the ultrasound. I suppose it may differ between hospitals, but I'm sure the private clinics would be even more forthcoming with information than the NHS. I hope you get good news.
Hello again. Mine turned out to be a polyp, and also benign fibroids. First time round they removed the polyp. Bleeding continued and they diagnosed benign fibroids. I had no pain or cramping. The second time they also found what they thought was a cyst on my ovary which wasn't there before. They weren't totally sure it was only a cyst so they gave me a blood test to be sure it wasn't cancer. It turned out it was OK, just a cyst. So not all uterine problems are cancer. Good luck with your next tests.
Hi Tanneth, thank you for replying.
Good to know.
So pleased you were given the all clear.
Hi, I had my (NHS) abdominal and TV ultrasounds a week after my referral and the technician asked me if I’d like to see the screen so I said yes and I did. She showed me what she saw, including that my endometrium was 11mm thick which meant I needed a hysteroscopy which happened a week later. Unfortunately it failed as my cervix was too stenosed so I had it under general a month later, with results two weeks after.
Hi MarmiteFan, thanks again for replying.
My consultant told me at my first appointment that I will be having a hysteroscopy under GA as he wants to take biopsies. He said it’s the gold standard test but this will be after the ultrasounds. I am pleased it’s under GA as I have read about too many bad experiences with this procedure.
Anyway, hope you doing ok.
