Hi there, saw a lovely consultant this evening re my post menopausal bleeding and cramps etc. He didn’t examine me. I have to have an external and internal ultrasound and then a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic so he can take biopsies. I should get a call tomorrow with a date for the scan which will be quick and I am to ring his secretary tomorrow to book the hysteroscopy. he said it will take 30 mins and it will be a day case which is good. He said results will take up to 2 weeks.
On the positive side he said that 99% of the women he sees do not end up with cancer.
Pleased the first step is out of the way.
Hoping for good results.
Hi cats and trees (+ hunky fireman lol)
If you look at my profile which I have to update apart from that my womb lining was either 24 or 26mm which ended up with me having an outpatient appointment for Gynaecologist within two or three weeks within suspected cancer guidelines.
On my first meeting with the consultant my first Hysteroscopy was done without a general anaesthetic but he was unable to get any biopsies in all honesty he was useless fortunately there was another consultant who was far more knowledgeable in working with obese (fatties) like myself so about two weeks later I met with the other consultant and she done the Hysteroscopy also without a general but she managed to get the biopsies needed especially from the large polyp which was there after the Hysteroscopy I had my consultation where Doctor Rose said "usually taking biopsies from polyps and womb lining that have cancer crumble and it's hard to get good biopsies since my womb lining and polyp biopsies were good, she thought my results will come back clear" unfortunately between May June 2022 I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer whilst out shopping in Tescos.
On the 20th December 2023 I was admitted as a day case to get my polyp removed and be cancer free !! Unfortunately that was not the case as it was the first consultant that tried the first biopsies told end of the day the removel if the polyp wasn't achievable fortunately Dr Rose had taken an interest in me and contacted me the next day and said she was going to contact her team and asked if they would help during there lunch hour to remove the polyp so my lunchtime operation without a anaesthetic was scheduled for the 5th January 2024 were I had the coil out in and the polyp removed.
I had more recent scans done about 6 or 7 weeks ago and was informed the cancer was still there but due to my obesity I am still waiting on my radical hysterectomy operation, were my entire uterus, tubes ovaries and cervix and tissues next to the uterus are all taken away. My weight started out at nearly 153kg I am diabetic (insulin and pill managed) and disabled the consultant that does the robotic operation wanted my weight from 153.9kg to 149 / 148kg by the 25th March 2024 my weight down to 143kg so on 25th March 2024 two weeks time I will see how my wee predicament turns out as by May June I will have this cancer 2 years.
SO GOOD LUCK ON YOUR RESULTS WHEN THEY COME.
Hi Wilma, thanks for taking the time to reply.
I have just read your story. What a journey.
Congrats on the weight loss, and pleased you are now getting the surgery. I too am classed as obese at 100kg.
I wish I had known that being overweight is a big risk factor with Endometrial Cancer. Since seeing my GP on 5th March I decided to try and lose some weight but I am actually comfort eating a lot of bad food. I did not even contemplate that my weight might become an issue re any possible operations. I will try harder.
I too have a long suffering husband lol. 25th wedding anniversary this year. 2 boys aged 21 & 23 but they are still at home. I am also disabled and got my blue badge last year. I am still working full time but work from home 3 days a week and 2 in the office. Got a crazy little West Highland terrier called Georgie.
I am wishing you well with your operation and hope you become cancer free. Take care x
Just for you info…my BMI was just over 40 and I have T2 diabetes…my consultant said my weight would not be a reason for the hysterectomy not to take place…I was first on the list at 9am on a Monday and was back home Tuesday before lunch..my recovery was as it should be apart from a haematoma which took a while to disperse, just unfortunate…
So please don’t think all consultants will put things off if you are overweight.
Hope everything goes well x
Thank you Duffers Mum, glad yours went mostly well.
UPDATE 15/03/24
TV ultrasound booked for Monday 18th March. Unfortunately my consultant is now on holiday until 4th April, so the earliest date for the hysteroscopy will be 21st April. However, his secretary is trying to get another consultant to give up a theatre slot on 6th or 7th April to get me in instead.
Fingers crossed.
