Hi just a general enquiry , I've now had 2 chemo sessions and wondered if anyone else had joint pain afterwards ? In bed during the night it's as if I've been whacked in my knees and so painful , tried paracetemol but not really working ..
Hi Shar58
ive now had 3 chemotherapy sessions and I get joint pain in my legs and feet and it is mostly at night. Sorry but I haven’t got an answer to make it feel better, the best thing to do is mention it to your oncologist and he or she might advise you what you can do. You could also ring the 24 hour helpline and they may be able to help you also.
I know I mentioned it to my oncologist and he suggested I change how I take the steroids before and after treatment, so I had some to take afterwards to help the joint pain.
Good luck and hope you get something sorted.

Hi Shar58
I had this during my paclitaxel and carboplatin chemo. It is normally a side effect of the paclitaxel and can be really painful. Paracetamol is not usually enough and if you give your hospital a call they will be able to prescribe something stronger.
For me it repeated on the next cycles and would last 2-3 days before easing. Give them a call and they will help.

Hi Shar,
This was the only side effect I had from chemo and it was very painful. I had it in every bone in my body but the first session was worse, or maybe I just got used to it. My consultant allowed me to take nurofen and paracetomol together which really helped. She was happy to allow nurofen as it was only for two days tops at a time. They don't usually like any ibuprofen being used as it can affect the kidneys which are already under strain with the chemo. I would phone your CNS or your hotline number for proper advice though. Hope you feel better soon.
