So got my results today & thankfully pre cancer biopsy result! As soon as he said pre...I exhaled, didn't even realise I was holding a breath!
Due to history, they want to do full hysterectomy asap. Most of it is a whirlwind, vaguely remember some warnings about sample areas, but I'm confident things won't change after the histology report returns. He did say he'd draft everything in a letter to send GP & and cc me in.They tried to book my pre op today but no availability, so back on Friday & then will get a surgery date within next 4-6 weeks!
Can't quite believe 3 weeks ago my gynaecologist was giving me options to avoid major surgery to today sitting there to hear another one say sooner rather than later would be best!
I suppose I'm just looking for pre op advice really? Any recovery tips etc. I'm relatively fit & healthy though on meds for hypertension (I'm sure it's related to Adenomyosis but thats another tale) Work have been amazing, home & office based & I can work from home more, once back on my feet. I help out a lot with young grandchildren, (ages 1,4, 6) so more worried about that at the minute. Had laporoscopy a while back & struggled to lift anything for a couple of weeks, expecting similar.
Hi Ethalil and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
That's great news that you have been diagnosed as pre-cancerous but it's natural to still have lots of questions.
I'm not a member of this group but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again and hopefully someone will pop on to share their experiences with you.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Ethalil that’s fantastic news for you , you must be very happy! As far as the hysterectomy is concerned I found it a great relief to finally get rid of everything and not have to worry about the bleeding etc. Before my hysterectomy I made lots of meals to put in the freezer for the first couple of weeks. If you look back on some of the threads in this group there are lots of tips for what to pack for your stay in hospital. I made sure my house was nice and tidy before my op so I didn’t have to worry about that. Post op the main thing is to not overdo things and stick to the hospitals advice. I found that I got tired very quickly for a few weeks so I had the occasional afternoon nap! I was driving after 5 weeks and felt confident to do so. I had abdominal surgery rather than keyhole so some things took a bit longer. I was lucky in that I didn’t have any bowel problems I know some people have constipation afterwards and that can be horrible. My hospital gave me stool softeners just in case and painkillers if I needed them. I was surprised how quickly I recovered, the main problem for me was tiredness but 8 months later I’m completely back to normal. I hope the hospital come back soon with a date for you so you can get it over and done with , the waiting is horrible.
Linda
Hi Ethalil, welcome to the group. I wrote a diary thread two years ago about my hysterectomy - you may find it useful: community.macmillan.org.uk/.../hysterectomy-day-and-after---diary
Hi Lin, thank you that's really helpful advice. Yes I'm totally relieved, the waiting for results was definitely the worst part! I went to see consultant & he said 'do you have any questions' Me, 'Yes, why am I here in an oncology clinic!' Him, 'Oh, I'm so sorry, did no one explain to you what's happening'! Not a great experience tbh. But I totally realise how lucky I am, especially reading some of the experiences here, so I can't really complain. Have endometrial hyperplasia, aged 50, therefore the whole lot is going as a precaution. Will either be laporoscopy or robotic (they alternate clinic weekly, so depends on first available surgery slot) Totally agree with that decision, no qualms at all. Had cervical CIN3 twice previously, taking no chances this time. Had minor laporoscopy surgery for Endo previously (was back to normal 2 weeks later) but have been warned this is major surgery so don't expect same recovery time. At the end of the day, if it takes 8+ weeks, it will be worth it for peace of mind if nothing else.
My only (slight) concern, is if there's any possibility the endo hyperplasia is a secondary to a primary elsewhere. My initial consultation was a bit of a whirlwind so I'll discuss that when I next see consultant.
Have pre op in 2 weeks, so they are moving quickly & was told op in 4-6 weeks, so again really lucky I won't be left waiting. My daughters 21st end of May, so if I'm back on my feet by then, I'll be ecstatic.
Thank you for taking the time to respond & wish you well
Marmite, thank you for the link, that was really helpful. You sound a bit like me regarding meds. My GPs registrar once said 'you ask the right questions, what are the side effects, do I really need this, are there alternatives' ha.
It's good to know what to expect though I'm well jealous of your stockings! Mine were a dark khaki green last time I had surgery, very fetching! Ha.
I also had a hysterectomy due to complex atypical hyperplasia (pre cancerous cells) found in one polyp…my consultant was quite confident that it was just in that one polyp as all my lining biopsies came back clear…there was a 40% chance though that cancer could be found once they completed the histology after hysterectomy..I had to wait 3 months for my hysterectomy due to high blood sugar so I had a mirena coil put in until such time as I could have my hysterectomy.
I hated that mirena coil with a passion for the 3 months I had it but I had my hysterectomy last September and the histology all came back clear, no cancer and not even any hyperplasia (just as my consultant thought)
I hope you don’t have to wait too long for your surgery and that everything comes back clear
Hi Duffersmum.
So glad you got a clear result. Everything has moved so quickly, I can barely keep up! Ha. Had my biopsy 6 weeks ago, have my hysterectomy booked for next Monday! Literally 7 weeks total from start to finish.
I'm a bit nervous, it is major surgery afterall, but I will be glad once it's all over. He has warned me there is still a chance of finding cancer on histology but I'll cross that bridge if/when I come to it. Hopefully I won't have to wait to long, they certainly seem to keep on top of things here thankfully.
I know one thing, I'll be booking myself a nice little pamper weekend once I'm back on my feet properly!!
I was expecting a long wait for my histology results after I had to wait almost 6 weeks for the result of my hysteroscopy biopsy but I just happened to have to go to the hospital because I had a very large haematoma after my surgery which kept bleeding…
My appointment wasn’t with the consultant but he walked past and saw me and said he’d take a look - I was very lucky to have such a lovely consultant, he sorted the dressing then said “oh your histology has just this minute come back” I was so relieved when he said everything was clear…I do hope you get the same.
Pampering sounds like a very good idea, I couldn’t wait to get a pedicure and nice polish! 4 weeks before my hysterectomy I tripped over a damaged kerbstone and fell into a low wall breaking my humerus in 3 places so I had that to put up with as well when I had my op…just wish my arm recovery was as quick as my hysterectomy was…but alas not, still in a lot of pain and a wait of around 12 months for surgery!
Oh my! That does sound painful. As if a cancer scare & hysterectomy isn't stressful enough, going through it with a broken arm must have been awful. Hope you get the surgery you need soon & I'd definitely be treating myself after going through all that if I were you!
Sorry to dig up an old thread but it's been an eventful year! Had my hysterectomy & recovered really well considering.....until 5 weeks to the day of op. Suffered a brain haemorrhage & spent a month in intensive care! Did not have that on my bingo card!!!
Had a long recovery & as 'brain trumps pretty much everything' & gyne surgeon confident nothing but pre cancer cells, no further action was required. Happy days. Finally back to resembling normal. Went for routine breast scan last week, just got a recall for more tests, so we go again!
I'm not allowing myself to panic & stress but I suppose I just wanted to vent a little with people who can understand the emotional stress all these appointments & call backs can generate. Everyone here was so lovely taking time to reassure me in the past & even the most positive people here understand that little whisper of what if that can linger.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
