Is radiotherapy standard treatment for stage1b?

Hi I think it’s routinely offered as belt and braces. Consultant said this am that some women refuse as it’s a fail safe - but I want to ensure I’ve done everything possible.

Oh right.  I see.  Is it internal and do you have to wait a while 

Have an appointment 13th March so 6 weeks post surgery. CNS says it will be external- won’t know details till 1st appointment. At least I will be able to drive by then! Consultant was really reassuring that this is a fail safe and a sensible precaution.

There can be some variation between hospitals but from what I have seen on here and personal experience- yes 1b often means radiotherapy. I had both chemo and radiotherapy. The radiotherapy was offered to mop up any stray cells. I had 25 sessions of external beam radiotherapy in August/Sept 2022. I did not have brachytherapy (the internal radiotherapy) as no cells were found in my cervix.

Tashton, there isn’t really “standard” treatment - some 1bs have it, some don’t. It depends on a number of factors, including grade, so we can’t really say. I was grade 1, stage 2 and had radio BUT wouldn’t have if I’d had any nodes sampled and it had come back negative (and stage 2 is higher than 1b).

I think it is a case by case decision. I was stage 1b Grade 1, but they found LVSI so they suggested 27 sessions of pelvic radiotherapy.

I had grade 3 and stage 1b and was told I would need radiotherapy but then because I tested positive for Pole, I didn't need it.
