These washings are performed along side hysterectomy’s and BSO

peritoneal washings not sure if that's near the stomach or uterus areas

Has anyone had these washings  during  their hysterectomy  operation and theve come back positive please or some  cells in them  and if so what was the treatment after

  • Hi mollysue

This is where they put a saline/salt water solution into the peritoneal cavity. (The peritoneum is the membrane that lines the inside of the abdomen) The fluid is then drained off and they are checking to see if any cancer cells are present. It is routinely done.

If cancer cells are found in the peritoneal cavity (inside abdomen) then it would mean the cancer has got out of the womb and likely mean chemo would be suggested.

  • I understand what it is but I wondered how common it is and symptoms

Just can't get this out of mind now fearing the worse when though mines a low grade and stage on mri

my mind working overtine  the moment and feel very low as so worried

I'm back to not eating or sleeping again

I can't see me going back to work again after all this as I am so depressed and just want to lay in bed all day

we are due to go in a cruise in April from uk but even that I can't face

  • My drs letter after op from my surgeon  say uterus perotineal surface all normal so I'm hoping means a good sign

  • I know it's hard but you have been given provisionally a low grade and stage and hopefully it will remain the same or at least similar when you get the results back. Worrying about it and all the possible ins and outs will not change things. Hopefully you should know in the next couple of weeks. Best thing to do now is to try to focus on recovering from the op- you are doing brilliantly to get out and about. If it does turn out that something unexpected turns up in your results, meaning possible further treatment- then you will be recovered and as well as possible for the treatment.

Try and keep a routine with eating and sleeping and continue getting out and about with your husband. The fresh air will help.

Remember a couple of weeks ago how worried you were before the operation and we were all trying to give you reassurance. You did really well in the end. You got through the surgery. Cancer isn't easy and waiting isn't easy but you will soon find out the next step for you.

  • Try focussing on what’s known today, not the what ifs. Otherwise you’re not just worrying about the future, you’re risking depriving yourself of the present day’s joys and blessings. The MacMillan support line is open 8am-8pm all weekend if it would help to have someone to talk to.

  • I'll call my nurse Monday for a chat

  • I seem to be concerned some what over these peritoneal washings  and if it’s related

stomach due to me having such loud tummy noises constantly, even after a bowel movement the noises are so loud and burping all day , like excess gas . I’m not sure where it’s coming from but so annoying maybe intestines

I suffer from a gerd so maybe that but keep thinking the worse

bowels all working ok now too

  • Hi Mollysue

Tummy noises will be excess wind in your gastrointestinal system this includes your stomach and bowels. It will have nothing to do with your peritoneal washings. In a way it’s a good sign because your bowels are working! Try not to worry so much about it. You can get tablets for excess wind and also moving about more can help pass it through. Have you seen your granddaughters since your operation? Try and focus on the good things in your life not on the what ifs . You can worry about them if and when they happen.

    hugs Linda

  • the rumbling and noises are coming from my stomach causing wind gas and burping

The peritoneum is the membrane that lines the inside of the abdomen so thought it may be connected but maybe it just wind in my intestines

  • Mollysue, please be reassured as the peritoneal washing is inside where the uterus was and nothing to do with your bowels and digestive system.
