One week today I had my operation , blood pressure was high for few days but gradually coming down now , and been monitoring it ,I would say one if the worse things was the first poo and constipation oh my goodness I was in agony but a Senna and dose of Laculose has helped me so much and relieved the pain .

I am walking around house every day doing little bits  but not sure if now I should be going outside for short walk to nearest lamppost for 5 mins as  a week now .????? A friend coming today so thought maybe she could walk with me , any thoughts

  • Great news, I went for a small walk after 4 days and found it OK, I'm still on injections as I had 28 days to do but on countdown now sbonly 5 more left to go ! x

  • Hi Mollysue

Glad it has all gone ok. Walking really helped me. Short ones to start with and having a friend with you for the first time is a good idea. I felt a bit shaky the first couple of times I went out- partly I think the emotions of having cancer surgery and partly the tiredness from it all.

The first couple of days I just pottered about in my garden - but any fresh air and moving will help.

  • Hi mollysue

its so good to hear that you’re doing well. Sounds like a good idea to take a friend with you for your first outside walk, you can hold her arm if you feel a bit wobbly! It will be lovely to get some fresh air after your op.

  • Hi Mollysue Wave

    Sounds like you're doing well.

I agree - the technology is amazing.

Re walking, I did 5 minutes every day outside for the first week.

10 minutes every day for the second week.

15 minutes every day for the third week...and so on.

Take someone with you to begin with. Walking outside is so lovely and it boosted my spirits.

Enjoy the time with your friend.

  • Defihitely yes! I was told there’s no reason not to start walking right away if you feel able, so I did a gentle 5 mins walk as soon as I got home from hospital. Thereafter I did 5 mins twice a day for the first few days then increased one of them to 10, and by two weeks post op I was doing 20-30 mins a day. Just gentle strolls and I listened to my body. It was January 2021 - my op was 2 years ago today.

  • Had my first walk outside yesterday to  2 nd lamppost and back

will do again each day and try to go to next one each day !
