after your hysterectomy does the surgeon come round and see you ?
do they give you a. Idea if it went well and would they know or have  an idea about  the staging  results from what they can see

  • Hello

Mine came round and saw me the following morning.  He told me the surgery had gone well and told me how many lymph nodes he’d removed.  However he said he couldn’t give any more information until the histology report was back and I think this would normally be the case.

  • My consultant came to see me the following day and said everything went well and that they had removed a number of lymph node.s.  Had to wait 2 weeks for the histology report and then discuss the treatment plan.

i was told that it hadn’t spread and that was a good sign.  The waiting was awful but my CNS phoned me to see how I was doing.

  • I find as it's been 6 weeks I am now worrying about every extra pain down there and twinge thinking it's spread  I just can't help it

  • mollysue, have you packed yet for your overnight stay? I found that making my list, sorting a suitable case (with wheels), working out what to take, and buying a few extra things helped take my mind off the wait (my op was 9 weeks post diagnosis, which is fairly average for a predicted low grade low stage cancer). I especially planned my snacks and I’m so glad I did as I didn’t have much appetite post op. I even took in my breakfast for the next morning - I like overnight oats, so I put them in a Tupperware with sultanas and a bit of sugar, and then poured some water in to soak them mid evening after my op. Taking fruit in jelly (bought from the supermarket) was something I was also very glad I did as it’s easy on the stomach. Any pains or twinges you’re having are likely stress related as grade 1 cancers are typically extremely slow growing. I totally get the anxiety and the just wanting it done, but by this time next time you should hopefully be done and dusted, home and recovering!

  • The waiting and worrying are infuriating as we give our imagination an opportunity to exaggerate every ache and pain.  All I can suggest is call your CNS as she might have the results and could put your mind at rest.

Do you have an appointment to see your consultant?  If not definitely call your CNS to find out what's going on.

  • No I've done all that

my gyno was on holiday so she days I could wait 6 weeks and she's back fir to do my hysterectomy

during that time I have gradually been getting more anxious and getting more twinges so mind working overtime

  • The initial grade and stage mean that the cancer is pretty much contained within your womb.  The chances are it will stay pretty much the same as it was.

We all imagine cancer at its worst and think the worst too but once you’ve had your hysterectomy and are on the mend you will get to a better place.

Its so easy for those of us who have been through it to say try not to worry and try to relax but it doesn’t help how you feel.

You’ll have read many posts on here about it and what we all go through and I hope that will ally some of your fears.

Any time you want to talk, there are lots of us on here who will try to help you get through this x

  • Mine came to see me the day after the op. She said that it had gone well and it appeared that the cancer was contained but she would confirm this at the follow-up appointment which she did.

My surgeon came to see me and told me exactly how the op had gone but as others have said, final staging etc can't be confirmed until the histology is looked at. Please try not to worry, I didn't worry at all in the lead up to my op and I am glad I didn't. Worrying is not going to change the outcome and I am sure the stress is not good for you - don't give this illness anymore power than it already has. Your initial staging and grade sounds positive so try not to worry. x

  • Hi mollysue

My surgeon did indeed come and check me on the ward. He just said that he felt it had been contained in the womb and that the post op pathology would confirm whether or not further treatment was needed. (It was)

He just said the surgery was straightforward and went well and asked about pain. He then said he would come back and see me in the am and discharge me - if I could use the toilet and could walk around. I did both.
