Hi Ladies

I had my hysterectomy last March and 25 sessions of radiotherapy then 3 of brachytherpy all went well but what I wanted to asked was how everyone's health was after their treatment was finished.

This is my first winter since my treatment has finished and I've had covid and two really bad colds and feel like I'm not getting over one thing and I'm ill again. Just wondering how everyone else has been???

Izzi x

  • Hi Izzi

I did have covid straight after radiotherapy but caught it off my hospital driver! Since then other than treatment side effects I have been pretty well and not caught anything.

I did pick up a few things during chemo but that was to be expected as I was neutropenic for a time.

I wonder how much is normal for this time of year as several family and friends have had colds lately that seem to go on and on.

How are you feeling generally? Maybe it would be a good idea to get checked out in case something is causing it- if only for some reassurance.

  • Oh Jane that's terrible that you got it from the driver. I got covid in Nov so not straight after treatment. I have had the cold twice since then bad enough that I've had to go to bed. This is just not like me I usually don't get things as bad as that it's really bringing me down

  • Just one of those things. I tested positive the day after my treatment ended. To be honest I didn't feel that unwell from it.

Am sorry you are picking things up and its getting you down. Although I wasn't picking things up particularly, I can remember taking a fair few months to feel human again. I still get the odd day and my treatment finished Sept 2022. I would get checked over and maybe have some bloods taken. Could well be lingering effects from the treatments. My bloods took a very long time to normalise. I had chemo but even with radiotherapy my diet was affected for a long time due to symptoms and I did feel quite washed out and low.

  • It's strange how it affects everyone differently. I was great after my treatment was finished but since the start of this year it's been a different ball game and mentally it's although I've just caught up with myself and what's actually happened.

You are ofcourse right and I should call the doctor, which I will do. Thanks for responding I hope your well xx

  • Hi Izzi, how do you feel in yourself? I had my hysterectomy in Jan 2022 and radiotherapy finishing mid May. I felt quite tired then come the winter when I told my oncologist she said I should have blood tests to check my thyroid (I was already hypothyroid). My GP decided to do a full blood count and that showed that my white cell count was on the low side! I had repeat tests over the next few months and they eventually went up to the proper levels but it took about 4-5 months. I had had Covid in Aug 2022 so I wondered if it was the radio, or that, or a combo of both. I would suggest checking with your GP and asking for a blood test. I took a B complex vitamin tablet to help my body recover.

  • Oh that's really interesting. I was, like everyone really worried about my treatment but apart from the usual toilet issues, which you will know what I'm talking about !! I sailed through it and I just wanted my life back. But honestly since the weather has changed I have had one thing after another, which before treatment wouldn't have had this affect on me I'm floored and it is really bringing me down I want to move on from this and feel like I keep getting dragged back

Did you discuss this with your oncologist at an appointment or did you call and make an appointment?

  • Hi Izzo, I'm thinking that maybe your immunity is suppressed and therefore you will catch anything else that is around, slowly your immunity will get better. Especially so if you were well beforehand. X

  • After my treatment finished in mid May 22, I had one check up at the beginning of July, then one end September and another end December. I mentioned it at the December appointment. (They wanted to put me on patient led follow up after that but I asked if I could have more actual ones and they agreed).

  • Thanks for the reply and I think you could be right. After speaking to a couple of the ladies today they pretty much have said the same as yourself so I will give my doctor a call x

  • I think i will call my GP and see what they suggest. How are you feeling now.? Your operation and treatment were the same time frame as me x
