I’m due to go in for a full hysterectomy on the 17 January. I started taking homeopathic remedies when I was diagnosed in August and I’m wondering if I can still take them up to the operation date. My homeopath says it’s ok but I’m getting conflicting information regarding recovery and bleeding. I’m currently taking vitamin c and d plus an ultra probiotic which I started taking thinking I was having the operation months ago! Does anyone have any experience with homeopathic remedies and what did you do? I’m also on thyroxine.
Hi Biuebellina, what homeopathic remedies are you taking? (Just asking as the things you’ve mentioned are not homeopathic remedies). When you had your pre op assessment, you will have been asked to list all meds and supplements that you take - did you mention all these then? Hopefully you did as they will at least want to know about the thyroxine, I listed my thyroxine along with all the other supplements I take. I took all mine up to my op and after, and also all through my radiotherapy. When you say you’re getting conflicting info re recovery and bleeding, from where are you getting this? For the record, I hardly bled after my op. When I came round there was one little fingernail size drop of blood on the pad under me, and that was it. No more bleeding and I never need to use the sanitary pads I bought specially.
Hi Bluebellina
The best thing is to run anything that you want to take by your CNS/doctors, even if they are natural, homeopathic or vitamins. Although your homeopath says they are ok I would still advise you to speak with your team as although from the homeopath's point of view they are safe- there could potentially be some interaction that they may not be aware of. I would think most would probably be ok but do check. I did take some supplements during treatment, surgery, chemo and radiotherapy and just listed them for the hospital.
Same with thyroxine, they need to know.
Is there anything in particular about the recovery you are concerned about, as you say you have been given conflicting advice?
I had no bleeding at all after my hysterectomy. Some people may get a little.
