I'm sitting here waiting for my mid treatment CT feeling so nervous. Even though I got the news that my CA125 had returned to normal, can this scan still show up something nasty? Bloods don't tell everything do they?
Hello Hop5
When I had my first CT scan, December 2021, they informed me that apart from the womb cancer they had found nodules on the lungs, cyst on my kidney and a haematoma on my liver!!!
This came as a shock, it all turned out to be:
So yes, it may show 'other' things, but as we're older now, it is more common that they see things that maybe not necessarily worrying unless there's symptoms or further investigations needed.
In any case I hope it all goes well and that it shows treatments working for you.
Hi Mad,
How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? I have just read your bio and its very positive. Thanks re the nasty things that may well be found that turn out to be nothing bad. I suppose I am worried they will see a spread or a new cancer as this would not necessarily show up in my bloods would it?
Hi I'm 65, be 66 in few months. I was 63 when I had my operation in January 2022. I do think this is a common age for this cancer to surface.
Hi Hop5
Try not to worry too much, it is understandable to have anxiety around any scans. Try and see the scans as a tool for the doctors to decide which treatments are best for you and to monitor how they are going on. I do get the nervousness though. It sounds promising that your CA125 is normal and hopefully the results will show that the treatment is working for you. It is possible that any scans may show other things, but these are not necessarily things that are a cause for concern as Madesp has shown.
Please do let us know how you get on.
Jane
I was told anything under 35 is considered normal. After treatment I was 13.
CA125 is only a useful diagnostic marker though and not the whole picture and it can go up and down for other reasons such as infections.
If CA125 goes down it suggests that someone is responding to treatment and the cancer is reducing, if it goes up it would suggest that if due to the cancer, the cancer cells are becoming active again.
This is how it was explained to me by my consultant.
Thanks so much Jane x I'm not sure what's happened to me but I've gone from being very at peace and calm with it to suddenly feeling panicky and doom and gloom. It was anniversary of my dads death yesterday and my mum's first anniversary today so could be a factor. Plus my 18 year old returns to uni in the States next week so I feel flat x positive pants back on asap lol x
