Do must people remember waking in recovery and how did you feel back at the ward
did you stay in bed for a few hours when back at the ward before getting up ? Or got up same day ?
Huw many nights did you stay in hospital for laposcopic/robotic ?
I didn't recall waking up in the recovery room, my first recollection post op was being back on the ward. I needed an abdominal lateral incision so maybe that delayed me waking up earlier. I also stayed in bed until the next day. However, I had very little pain just felt a bit uncomfortable.
I remember waking in recovery after both my hysteroscopy and my hysterectomy. When I was moved to the ward, it was quite a noisy busy 4 bed ward and when my lovely consultant came to see me I told him I wasn’t happy there and he got me moved bless him to a quiet empty ward, Bliss! My catheter was still in though as it was the hospital policy to keep it in overnight, so I stayed in bed and didn’t get out of bed till the catheter was removed at 6 the following morning. Went home that lunchtime,
I woke up in recovery feeling very cheerful and chatty - and relieved. I was waving at people as I was taken back to the ward. I think the painkillers I had been given helped with all this. I was quite awake fir a long time but did eventually fall asleep.
I think I stayed in bed until the next morning, then mobilised gently, especially when the catheter came out.
I stayed in two nights - by choice. I had no problems at all but was tired.
Hi mollysue
I had lap surgery both times. I remember waking up in recovery both times feeling very chilled, calm not cold. First surgery, I was a daycase, in anaesthetic room 10.30, going home 3.45. 2nd surgery, I had my own side room with bathroom. Surgery Fri, discharged Sunday. Hope all goes well for you.

Was the 2nd surgery the hysterectomy ?
I see you stayed in 2 nights
is that the normal time 2 nights ?
Hi Mollysue
I woke up in recovery for a few minutes and was given some oxygen and more pain relief. I then went back to sleep for about an hour. I was then taken to the ward in the bed. The epidural wore off enough that I was walking round the bed within a couple of hours. They said they like to get people up and moving.
Catheter was removed 4am and at 530 am I had a wash and went for a walk around the ward,
My surgery was at around 12 ish and I woke up in recovery around 5 ish. Back on the ward 6/630. Given something to eat and a cup of tea around 7 ish from what I remember.
I was discharged first thing in the am but it was around lunchtime by the time a friend collected me as had to wait for meds and discharge paperwork.
I had my own room and toilet/shower.
In the am I had to show I could use the toilet, walk and was eating and drinking and then I was allowed to go. They did an ultrasound on my bladder to make sure I was able to empty it.
I had no real pain, I was more tired and washed out due to the anxiety of having an operation and the anaesthetic wearing off. I was well looked after by everyone as I am sure you will be.
