Hi,

I just got diagnosed with grade 3 endometrial cancer this morning.  I was immediately sent for a CT scan and am booked in for a MRI tomorrow, as well as meeting a specialist. I understand everyone is different but I am now so worried it may have spread and what stage I am at. I just wanted to see what other people who had grade 3 went through. And the treatment plans etc. Trying not start thinking the worse but its so hard not to.

  • Hello. It is just over two years since I was diagnosed with high grade serrous cancer and I know just how frightening and overwhelming it is.  Please click on my username if you want to read my profile.  I saw my oncologist again yesterday and my blood tests and cancer marker were all normal, examination showed everything looked okay and I am just awaiting a appointment for an up to date CT scan.  The women on this forum have been through most physical and emotional feelings between them so don’t be afraid to ask anything.  Take care xx

  • Hi Sots

I am sorry you find yourself with this diagnosis..

I was told in December 2021 that my biopsy showed cancerous cells but they did not tell me what grade. It was when I had an appointment at a different regional cancer hospital nearby in January 2022 that they were shocked I had not been told by my local hospital that it was HIGH GRADE CANCER! By then I had read all about the different cancers and that Grade 3 SEROUS is definitely one that I didn't want!

I have been lucky mine was early stage (1A) and after optional treatments I am still here, back to normal and living life. It has been a scary ride but hang on in there, hopefully yours too will be early stage(the MRI you have will determine the preliminary stage) please remember that it is only the histology after hysterectomy or removal of the tumour that defines which cancer and what stage for sure.

You can click on my username to see my journey so far, hopefully it will give you some hope that it isn't necessarily a death sentence. Ask away anything else that comes to mind. Take care x

  • Hello Sots

Welcome to the Online Community and the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear that you have had a diagnosis of grade 3 endometrial cancer this am. I remember when I got my diagnosis - it was quite a shock at how quickly things can happen.

It is normal to be given scans after the diagnosis and the meeting with the specialist will likely be about discussing the next steps. It is very natural to worry about potential spread and the scans should hopefully mean that they can give you a provisional stage.

If you click on my name, my profile will come up but I was diagnosed back in 2022 and had my hysterectomy 4 weeks after my first symptom of bleeding. Before surgery grade was not spoken about but the consultant said that he thought I was stage 1-2. When my post op pathology came back it confirmed a grade 3 type called carcinoma sarcoma. I was stage 1b.

Because I was grade 3 I was given 4 cycles of chemotherapy and then I had 25 sessions of external beam radiotherapy. I am now seen at the hospital once every 12 weeks for check ups.

I will pop a link here with some information that you might find helpful.

If talking things through would help then please do consider giving the Support Line a call. The number is at the end of this. They are really helpful on there.

I hope that your MRI goes well tomorrow and that you are able to be given some answers from your specialist. In the meantime if there is anything else you need or want to ask then please do so, there are many lovely ladies on here who have been where you are right now and will want to offer support.

  • Sorry to hear about your diagnosis of grade 3 endometrial cancer. I had the same in March this year based on a biopsy. It was a shock and it felt dreadful waiting for results and to have things explained so be gentle with yourself and know that staff will not keep you waiting. I had a CT scan and was not offered an MRI. The CT scan showed no spread. You should get the CT result fairly quickly. I had uterus, ovaries and cervix removed about 4 weeks after the CT scan results. The bigger biopsy showed that it was only in the uterus. They also downgraded the grade from 3 to 1. I still don't totally understand this other than they get a fuller picture after the op than from a small tissue sample. My sentinel lymph nodes were taken too but there was no cancer spreading to them. I guess this is routine and that you may have that done too. The stage was determined as stage 1a so no further treatment. I understand that if it had been grade 3, I would have had some radiotherapy. I am on a 3 monthly telephone call to check in with me. I hope things move quickly for you and do let us know how things are for you. Were you given the Macmillan booklet for endometrial cancer? I found it really helpful. The gyno-oncology nurse gave one to me. Best wishes.

  • Thank you, for getting back to me. I'm glad everything worked out well for you. It was just such a shock this morning to hear it was cancer.

I'm hoping and praying I also have a somewhat positive outcome after tomorrow's meetings.

  • It is such a shock. In fact I really learnt was shock was that day. I always have something to say and that day I didn't speak for hours. Literally. It really was the worst part for me so far. I rang the helpline here several times and don't think I would have got through it without them. You will still be in shock , its very early days. The more you know and understand, the more you find out your choices, the more in control you will feel. I can see that now but at the time I felt lost. Do reach out, ring helplines, concentrate on what you need right now to help you through. Hope tomorrow brings clarity and kindness.

  • Good luck for today- hope you get some answers and a plan
