Awaiting Hysteroscopy

I am waiting for a Hysteroscopy for what feels like an age. It has taken 8 months from scan to see consultant. And now waiting for Hysteroscopy. I have emailed in relation to accepting a cancellation which I have been told they have updated the team with but still no appointment. It has been seven weeks of waiting now after a long time waiting since initial scan showing enlarge uterus and 22mm lining and being told they want to investigate and it could indicate cancer.

I am getting so fed up, I am currently 18 days into bleeding and who knows when it will stop. I now often bleed after intercourse, get random twinges on of off, I’m tired and feeling rubbish. It started with intermittent spotting and bleeding occasionally after sex, but now the bleeding and spotting just seems continued. I just want to know what’s wrong with me and it’s scary when they mention potential cancer and then you have to wait for so long.

I have had the minera coil for 3 years after a diagnosis of Adenomyosis- but my bleeding is getting worse not better.

looking at other posts individuals who are fast tracked seem to be post menopausal and lots of posts relate to the post menopausal experience. I’m just wondering if there is anyone with some pre menopausal experience that can offer some advice around their journey and outcomes.

I just want to prepare myself.

  • Great that you have had it, also seems quite validating, let's hope the histology is not cancer and you get the hysterectomy to clear your issues x

  • Yes I think the validation has helped. Fingers crossed the path forward is a positive one. Blush

  • Hi Mumof2legends, glad you have finally had hysteroscopy. Was about to post you sound familiar to me! Waited forever on waiting lists, was passed between consultants etc, until I started calling the hospital admissions & pressing for updates. Got an appointment within days, just been diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia (pre cancer) & having hysterectomy within next 4-6 weeks.

I was also told my symptoms were IBS, menopausal etc, so I think the moral is, we usually know what is & isn't normal for us. If we have concerns, we need to press for further investigation. I spent over 5 years knowing something was amiss, I'm lucky. I understand our symptoms can indicate numerous scenarios, but if a woman continually presents with escalating concerns, these should be rapidly addressed and investigated.

Hoping for a good outcome for you x

  • Hi Ethalil,

that does sound familiar and sorry you have been passed from pillar to post to. You do start to doubt yourself. I even said to my husband at one point, am I being over the top - he promptly replied ‘no and you cannot go on like this’ I am lucky I have him for support and to encourage me to fight for myself. Which unfortunately it sounds like you have had to yourself.

sorry your diagnosis was pre cancer - thank goodness you pushed! Keep me updated on your journey and I hope all goes well with your operation. Will be thinking of you.

  • So we are nearly at two week mark and still no results, gosh this waiting is really quite hard isn’t it!!

Did ask to be copied into letter to GP which showed a endometrial biopsy, cervical biopsy and cervical diathermy had been carried out. But also said follow up planned in six weeks. Scream Not sure I can wait that long for results.

  • Hi

My latest round of biopsy results are also slower than before. For us, it seems to be a backlog from recent strikes and staff having had to cover other roles, then have knockon.

    Good luck for your results.

If your hospital has electronic letter option, you may wish to sign up for it. It means you are alerted the day the results letter is finalised. Saves a few days of waiting.

  • Hi there. New to this forum and came across your post. Sounds very similar to my situation. I’m 46, and period started to get heavy and prolonged around 5 years ago. Been getting progressively worse and worse and I now bleed for 2 weeks of each month - a week of which is unbelievably heavy that I can’t commute to work for fear of an accident! I went on combined HRT around a year ago, but this hasn’t helped. Things have only got worse. I had an ultrasound scan a couple of weeks ago that showed a 2cm polyp and thickened endometrial lining of 20.5mm. Seen two gynaecologists- first one was concerned and referred me to cancer specialist. But the second specialist doesn’t seem that worried. He has put me in for a hysteroscopy/ polyp removal and biopsy but said only because it is the correct process and he isn’t concerned at all as my CA 125 was normal. He has also said he will fit mirena coil at same time. I now have to wait! I am still concerned about EC though. Question - is it still possible to have EC with a normal CA 125 level?

  • My symptoms were the same as yours' but my CA125 level was raised. I was given tranexamic acid which helped the bleeding a bit. I hope you get some helpful answers soon.

  • Hi jay1977, sorry to hear you are experiencing these symptoms. As soon as the C word is even mentioned in a sentence can send us into a spin. Would you believe I have never had them checked. My symptoms led to the ultrasound, that let to consultant appointment, that led to Hysteroscopy. Not had one blood test. You could speak to one of the nurses on the helpline. They are great and really helped me understand some of the terminology etc. on previous results. But also something I am learning from my long journey to date is that if you are unsure ask, if you are concerned about times chase. This is you and your health therefore you are the priority.

  • Hi Jay1977,

You sound quite similar to me. Although like mumof2legends, I was never offered a CA125 or had any bloods done until my pre op 2 weeks ago. No idea what the results are yet but have Hysterectomy on Monday.

I had polyps removed & a endometrial biopsy & came back as endometrial hyperplasia atypia. (Pre cancer) so was offered the Hysterectomy BSO.

I had lengthy waits too, but once the hysteroscopy results came back (literally 12 days) everything moved quickly. From biopsy to surgery is just under 7 weeks for me! Don't feel like you can't chase up appointments. I left mine ages, got thoroughly fed up one day, called admissions expecting a bit of a battle, was given an appointment 4 days later! Also utilise your GP. Get them to chase for you if your waiting to long.

Most of all try not to panic (easier said than done I absolutely understand). It's unlikely there will be major changes to your outcome between now & biopsy, even with a bit of waiting.

Wishing you all the best & a swift outcome  :)
