Hooray! That’s me home after having an ‘uncomplicated’ laparoscopic total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo oophorectomy, with minimal blood loss! Done yesterday and home today-that’s a real plus. And I feel very well considering….but the wind pain, shoulder tip pain and bowels getting going after being shoved around, is pretty brutal! Regular paracetamol and ibuprofen is keeping the ache at bay but doesn’t help the after effects of a belly full of gas! But I’m feeling very lucky and hopeful. In a few weeks I’ll find out if any further treatment is needed. If it is, it’s likely to be a bit of radiotherapy.
Well done for having had your op! And glad you’re feeling up to posting! When I had a C section 35 years ago I had wind pain and referred (shoulder) pain and was expecting the same with my hysterectomy but weirdly didn't. Have you been able to get out for a gentle walk at all? I think that helps if you can, as can keeping to a light simple diet - I mostly ate meat, fish, fruit and veg and kept away from starchy carbs, I naturally had a poo without laxatives on day 4. Feel free to click on my name and read my story.
I’ve been up and about, walking the ward before I got home. The wind pain isn’t unexpected and the diarrhoea was probably made worse by the amount of fluid I drank after having the catheter removed. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the staging was correct and that the op is all I need.
Hi Stans mum
Am glad that your op went well and that you are home and recovering.
I did have some wind pain for a few days but it naturally went when I started to be able to move around a bit more. Peppermint tea may help. It took a couple of days for my bowels to get going and I used dulcoease (on CNS advice). Once I had been once everything settled down.
Take it easy and rest up for a few days and do let us know how you get on. I hope you do not have to wait too long for your post op results to come back. My came through at 3 1/2 weeks but it does seem to vary.
In the meantime if there is anything you need, then please do ask.
Jane
