Adjuvant brachytherapy

New here.

Just wondering if anyone is in a similar situation.

Luckily, I had a hysterectomy for stage 1a serous endometrial cancer.  I am waiting to have adjuvant brachytherapy.  I have no idea how many sessions and how long it will take.

Is anyone in a similar situation and can suggest what I could expect.

Thanks

  • I had first session of Brachytherapy 2 days ago.  Mostly it's 3 sessions approximately a week apart.  The first session took a bit longer because there is an necessary internal examination and i also had a CT scan.  It doesn't take very long about 15 minutes.  There's no pain but a bit uncomfortable.  I was so apprehensive about it and couldn't believe it was so much easier than I could imagine.  I was warned about side effects - a bit like having a bad UTI and possibly some diarrhoea but I've not experienced any of it.

  • Hi kiwicath, welcome to the group and well done for having had your op. Most brachy for endometrial cancer is done in short outpatient appointments, but in some instances a hospital will do a more intense one off treatment instead where you stay in longer (overnight). I had 25 x radio and 2 x brachy last year. The brachy sessions were a breeze.  It should all be explained to you at your first oncologist appointment but you could always call your CNS to ask what sort you will be having.
