I am still.waiting for the call re the results following the pathology after my lymph node removal and hysterectomy two weeks ago and am trying not to think about this at all. At the weekend I developed sinusitis and ended up feverish and had a high temp to went to the GP and he asked for a urine sample as I am needing to go very frequently. The urine test results have been put on my NHS app and have been passed to the Duty Dr to review and ring me, but I have been told to "give it a couple of days", the urine shows positive for blood and leukocytes and a fairly low pH. I used the online chat and the nurse was very evasive of my question as to whether the leukocytes and blood could be due to the cancer cells being in my blood stream (the reason the lymph nodes are being tested). She sent me a couple of links around urine results but ended the chat saying she could not answer further and I should ring the GP again. I am now worrying as I have read that ph of 7 and over can lead to bacterial UTIs but is unlikely in lower ph.
Not sure why I am posting, just trying to stop my mind going round and round
Hi B74, bless you - we all tend to worry so much about every little detail once we’ve had a cancer diagnosis. I’m obviously not medical but my own immediate thought is that if cancer could be detected from urine samples they wouldn’t need to remove lymph nodes! The nurse would have been “evasive” as she wouldn’t be in a position to answer anything like that, so, as difficult as it is, please try to focus on what is rather than what if. If you’re really worried, I’d suggest giving Macmillan a call before 8pm tonight or after 8am tomorrow and asking to speak to a nurse - 0808 808 00 00
I was using the Macmillan online chat (not being a fan of phones) and it was the ask a nurse function, so.my sense is there is no point asking again if they are not in a position to answer. I would rather know if it is a possibility so.i can prepare myself and hopefully be relieved if it isn't rather than have a shock.face to face. I feel dreadful, my sinusitis has become a more chesty cough which hurts my stomach, so it's just not good timing and now I am turning to Google as I need information.
Ah sorry, I didn’t twig that you meant Macmillan, I thought you meant your GP surgery. DON’T GOOGLE - it won’t help. I will also say again that a urine test is not a cancer test so, even though I appreciate it’s difficult, please try and rein in your anxiety for your own good. I’d recommend that you call your GP surgery first thing and ask for an urgent call back as you’re feeling both unwell and extremely anxious. You’re likely to need ABX for your infection and the sooner you can start those the better!
In my experience they don’t put anything to do with cancer on the App, so that’s another reason to try and lay your (understandable) anxiety aside, or put it on a high shelf in your mind.
It does mention my cancer diagnosis in the GP Health Record bit, because it was that which prompted me to click on test results and "consultations and events" and that's why I came across it.
Yes it will but it won’t have been there before you were told by the consultant, that’s the point I was intending to make - that they don’t put anything about cancer on your app before you’re told.
Hi B74
Am sorry to hear that you have been feeling unwell over the weekend. I hope you do not have to wait too much longer for your pathology to come back. Mine came back at 3 1/2 weeks post op but that was partly because I kept calling and emailing.
I have had urine test results in the past that show positive for blood and leukocytes. They were caused by a UTI. This was unconnected to my cancer.
I can understand why you are worrying. Hopefully your Doctor will get back to you tomorrow and be able to offer some reassurance.
Jane
