Just wondering if anyone has experience of (very light) bleeding that has started 10 days after the surgery, I haven't had any up to now.
The other thing I am getting which, although painful, is very short lived and intermittent and a little perplexing; that is a very sharp and sudden pain in my right upper arm, almost like a bee sting type sensation. This started on Sunday evening (so nearly a week post surgery) and seems to get triggered when I twist my arm or lift it and lean on my elbow in bed. I have mentioned this to the CNS and she said it could be due to the site of past injections, but on reflection, I always have injections in my left arm, I had the anti clotting injection in the back of my right arm but this pain is at the front.
My CNS also said it is fine to bath, but the hospital (different to the one she is based at) told me not to....
Hi B74, are you sure you’re not doing too much? I had a little when I did. Re bathing, I got my results at two weeks post op and my consultant said I could sit in shallow water (covering my thighs but no higher) and that I could gently wash but shouldn’t soak my wounds - so it needed to be a quick one. So I did. I had my first “proper” bath 4 weeks post op but some here are told 6 weeks.
I'll think I'll hold off from a bath (much as I'd like one), I'd rather not risk any complications.
I don't think I'm doing too much, but don't really know how I would know . I definitely walked too far on Monday, but then paid for it in discomfort and pain, but yesterday I was feeling better again.
Hello B74
I am still bleeding and I am 6wks post total hysterectomy and BSO on Monday.
It started settling down after 2 weeks and then increased a fair bit for a couple of weeks and then started slowing down again. Now I only notice a tiny brownish mark on my towel and when I wipe after the bathroom. So it has varied. I have followed all instructions and not overdone walking. Increase by 5 minutes weekly was what I was advised, so now I should be at 30 minutes daily walking. I will have my first bath next week and can start driving again yay!
But one thing I am learning is how different we all are AND advice does seem to vary between different trusts. I have called my Macmillan nurse a couple of times for advice and they were helpful. I would not hesitate to call for advice and reassurance if you want to. Also the support on here is amazing too.
I wish you well in your recovery.
Thank you, glad to hear you are nearing the point of "normal", not driving is tough and I am really missing the baths.
I haven't been given any advice regarding the walking, so maybe I am walking too far I did 30.mins (very slowly and only half a mile on the flat) yesterday....
I am guessing noone else has had the strange arm pain?
I had shoulder pain for a few days early post op. That was apparently a side effect from the air pumped into our abdominal surgery during surgery.
My anti clotting injections (Clexane) were administered into my abdomen - not the arm. I had to do them at home daily for 28 days. They did sting and were tender around the site.
