Immune status, after lymph node removal

I had 4 & 5 pelvic lymph nodes removed after a total hysterectomy for endometrial cancer in 2018. I have just been discharged! :-)

I’m now being advised to have a covid booster every 6 months, because I may be immunosuppressed?

Is my current immune status bad enough to need this?

My husband is anti covid vax & would isolate from me for 2 weeks after each jab.

if possible I’d be keen to skip these vaccinations?

thanks

  • Hello Fatfish

i haven’t heard this .  I had 18 pelvic lymph nodes removed in 2020, but nothing has ever been said about me being immunosuppressed.  It’s an interesting thought and I might try to find out more.

  • The NHS website has some information on this, it suggests circumstances and conditions which may warrant a Covid booster. Alternatively you could, perhaps, check it out with your GP or a Pharmacist.

  • Hello Fatfish,

Best person to speak to is your GP who can check and see for you. I am not sure about the lymph node removal and it's effects on immunity but it is not something I can remember seeing on here.

Last time I went for a covid jab- I took a letter from the hospital with my diagnosis on and they still asked me questions for eg; when last treatment was and about the chemo I had.

I would give my GP a call/or do an online consultation and ask specifically about risks and benefits so you can make an informed decision.

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks so much.

I did not realise it’s ok to have the follow up covid boosters only 3 months after the previous one.
wishing you all the best xx

  • Hello Pippa, I will try to keep you posted xx

  • Hello Fatfish

I think it's an automated message, they don't have the capacity to check status of every patient, so something has put you in the category of qualifying the COVID booster. Honestly if you don't want it, they'll just keep sending these automated messages until the system 'ticks you off' when or if you have it.

  • Hi Pippa,

my consultant has written to me to say that as far as he is concerned I am not significantly immunosuppressed.

    thanks. Xx
