Chemo Problems

I had my hysterectomy on 25 July and was Stage 1, Grade2 and successfully removed everything.  Lymph nodes removed showed a Mutant P53 gene which required chemotherapy to try and treat the mutation.

First round of chemotherapy was on 19 September and for 2 days I was fine.  Needed ambulance as had chest pains which radiated to my jaw.  Didn’t go to hospital as pain settled after an hour and a half.

On Sunday 23 I felt awful, I had fainted so called the 24 hour cancer line.and was admitted to hospital.  I was extremely dehydrated and had Sepsis.  I spent 12 days in hospital and during that time I was told my kidneys were only working at a third of normal and my white blood cells were zero.  Then I developed a UTI and everything went down hill.  I was on multiple bags of saline, antibiotics and injections to boost my white blood cells and back on blood thinning too.  I didn’t feel sick and was completely surprised when my hair started falling out on 02October.

Due to everything my consultant has decided that I’m not fit for getting anymore chemotherapy.  I will be having Brachytherapy at the end of the month.

Everyone going through chemotherapy has my respect and my heart goes out to them.  My experience was pretty rare and I wish everyone facing chemo the strength to get through it.

  • Hi Linda

Am so sorry to hear that you had such a bad reaction to chemo. It must have been very frightening to have such a reaction and then develop sepsis.

I had chemo and external radiotherapy but did not have brachytherapy - however there are several ladies on here who will be able to offer support and answer any questions you may have.

Cancer and cancer treatments can be so unpredictable and it sounds like your consultant has made the safest and best decision for you and hopefully you will be recovered enough to have brachytherapy as planned at the end of the month.

In the meantime I hope you are able to continue to recover at home and that your brachytherapy goes well.

If there is anything you need, please do ask.

  • Thank you Jane

With many different treatments and people it's understanding that people will have completely different reactions to chemotherapy.

I'm quite sure that the information from both my consultant and CNS will make a big difference in dealing with the Brachytherapy.
