After being sent home in June due to high blood sugar levels, I have now had my hysterectomy, bit sore but hopefully can go home tomorrow, then have to wait to see if anything nasty has been found. My original diagnosis was atypia hyperplasia.
Hello Duffers Mum
Am glad that you have been able to have your surgery and hope you will be able to go home tomorrow. I found I was a bit sore for the first 24 hours but it soon settled. Just rest up and listen to your body. Hope that you do not have to wait too long to have your results back.

Well done that's great to hear, know take it easy and listen to advice and your body, what method did they use, was it open keyhole or robot !! I really hope you don't have to wait too long for the results, I am still waiting because am obese ice-cream eater when stressed.
Keep well
I’m obese as well, I did manage to lose some weight before op. I was worried they’d say I needed to lose more thought, thankfully that didn’t happen…done by keyhole..no robots in our hospital, it’s like being back in the dark ages!
Duffersmum, well done for having your op. Being up and around should help a lot. Laparoscopic is great, nothing dark ages about that, and the recovery/going home time is typically a day or so quicker. I’d suggest keeping a light diet till you’ve had a poo (for me that was mostly fruit, veg and protein, very few carbs). I kept the quantity down too to make it easier, and I actually had no wind pains either. Hope you get to go home tomorrow and can start recovering! If you feel up to it, short gentle walks from the start will help.
I do low carb as standard as I’m T2…although there isn’t anything diabetic friendly on the menu…just as well I’m nit hungry! I had half a baked potato that’s all I could manage.
I have horrible sensation in my throat, presume it’s from the tube they put down, hoping that subsides soon.
Consultant said hopefully I can go home tomorrow, which will be good as the lady in the next bed is not exactly quiet…glad I brought ear plugs
Hi again Duffersmum, I couldn’t face a meal on my first night - I was done last and wasn’t fully round from the anaesthetic till 4.30 ish. So what I had was a couple of jellies with fruit cocktail which I requested from a nurse as the consultant told me they usually had leftovers in the ward fridge, plus some snacks I’d brought from home (a Soreen bar or two and some Quavers as I recall!) Plus fruit gums to ease my throat and lots of squash that I’d brought in. I had also brought in the ingredients for my overnight oats and just added water to the Tupperware beaker and let it soak. I hope tonight is okay for you. Tbh I only grabbed about 2 hours sleep on my first night when the hourly checks increased to 2 then 4. My original 4 bed ward was so noisy but thankfully my consultant visited when I was tearful and got me moved to another ward where I was the only patient! At the 4.30am check my nurses said I could either have my catheter out at 6.30 or 8.30 after changeover (I had been constantly asking when it could go lol) and I leaped at the chance of 6.30am and as soon as that happened I was slowly walking round the ward and corridors, and sitting in the chair by the window watching the sunrise and playing word games on my iPad. A rather surreal time which I remember very clearly! Thinking of you for tonight.
I asked them to remove the catheter while I was in recovery, it was too painful…
I didn’t get much sleep, it was too hot, the woman in the other bed wanted the window closed so it was really hot even with a fan.
I also had horrendous trapped wind, it was so painful but I seem to have dispelled it all now and could have powered the National grid I suspect!
Throat is still sore this morning but hopefully that will go away soon.
Ive been for a walk and had a couple of wees, hoping to have a shower later so I can wash my hair which seems to have a lot of bile in it from the op.
Hoping I get to go home later
Consultant has been to see me and I’m just waiting for my discharge paperwork before going home
Glad it went well. Not every hospital has robots though they definitely seem to be becoming more widely used.
Yes trapped wind can be very painful. It’s quite normal after general anaesthetic for the bowels to take a while to get back in action. I cannot recall how long it took for my throat to recover certainly wasn’t long.
