Pain after Hysteroscopy

Hi everyone,

I had my hysteroscopy under GA six weeks ago. After the procedure I was in a lot of pain and was given meds in the recovery room which helped. Since then I haven't had my period, which I was still having regularly before, and I've had what feels like constant period pains. It's not the worst but it's getting wearing. It's stage 1 thanbksfully and I'm booked in for a hysterectomy at the end of August. I probably should have mentioned it at my consent appointment but I didn't. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar. Before the hysteroscopy I did have period pains but only for the first days around my period, not constant.

And any advice about preparing for surgery would be welcome too.

Thanks

  • Muse, it varies from person to person. I believe most people can’t feel the catheter once it’s in, but some do and I could. It was uncomfortable verging on painful, and I needed pain relief to take the edge off it. My consultant thought my discomfort was from the bladder being knocked around a fair bit during surgery and didn’t think it was the catheter, but I was sure. I knew it was in for a good reason and I endured it, but kept asking the nurses how soon it could come out. At my 4am check a nurse said to me “you can either have it removed at 6.30am on our last check before changeover, or after 8.30am when we have changed over to day staff. I immediately said 6.30am and they asked me if I was sure (as it was so early). I said yes and when they arrived at 6,30 I was so excited. And as soon as it was out, I was out of my bed, walking around and with absolutely no discomfort. I think I am small inside, that may be it.

  • Yes, I think a leg would be easier, or else my OH will have to do it!
