Hi everyone
Just had first brachytherapy this morning. First lot got cancelled as consultant wanted to wait for results of another ct scan first.
My consultant seems to think I could be back at work during treatment because he said there aren’t any side effects. Both my employer & GP have said no return to work until after treatment completed.
When I had treatment this morning; they gave me list of possible side effects - tiredness, stomach upsets: bowel & bladder upsets, pain so not sure now who’s right.
I don’t get too many.
3 more sessions to go. Any advice please - re diet or anything else.
thank you
Hi Maisie63, brachy was a breeze for me. They have to tell you the possible side effects just in case but I had none aside from an initial warm feeling when peeing, but that didn’t last long. I’d had about 20 radio treatments already before I started brachy,, and they said I was unlikely to experience any side effects that I hadn’t already experienced with radio. I continued my low fibre, low gas diet till a week or two after my brachy and radio and then reintroduced my usual foods gradually.
Thank you, sounds like they are just explaining about possible side effects then rather than you could get all of them.
Hi Maisie63
I had my first brachy yesterday, and my second this morning. I hadn't had any wide-beam radiotherapy.
Apart from being a little undignified, the therapy isn't a problem - although I am very fatigued and, personally, wouldn't be up to working! The therapist said that ladies didn't usually find tiredness a problem until the last session (if at all) but, as I also have MS, it could be the whole getting to the hospital and waiting around thing. I'm also aware of a bit of pelvic discomfort like mild period pain, but nothing that even warrants paracetamol.
I agree, as long as something has been explained, you cant be surprised by anything!
BTW - other than taking things easy I'm not making any changes to my lifestyle.
Hi they are obligated to give you all possible side effects.
I had 2 sessions of brachytherapy last week following 25 sessions of radiotherapy. Like MarmiteFan59 it was a breeze. A couple of days after I had a little warmth on peeing that lasted a second but it has cleared up quickly. I had been concerned that the procedure might be painful or uncomfortable but it wasn’t at all.
Because of the radiotherapy I have some mild digestive issues though currently am on a low fibre, avoid gas diet though will be reintroducing fibre later in the month once I pass the 2 week mark.
