Hi everyone, just had my post op review & been advised cancer was confined to womb but quite deep into the muscle. Lymph nodes all clear so told cancer free but require radiotherapy too. My consultaCry asked me if I had any questions & my mind just went blank- I completely forgot to even ask whether I could start driving again. I’m 4 weeks post op. Now I have a million questions buzzing round my Cryad. I was told I will have an appt this Friday with oncology/ radiotherapy dept ? I’m presuming I will get a phone call to give me a time. Just so confused right now. Thought I was prepared for thisCrys always known it was an option. Cry

  • Hi Maisie63. It can be a very confusing and anxious time from pre op to post op, there is so much information to absorb.  I think most of us think of things we wanted to ask after the event. It might be helpful to write down any queries you have and take that with you to the next appointment. You might want to know the stage and grade of your cancer, implications of any further treatment, what you can & can't do post op - just a few ideas. Perhaps take someone with you for support.  I was given some  leaflets after my operation and post op follow up which were quite helpful. If you have been given a CNS (Cancer Nurse Specialist) they are also a useful source of information and advice between appointments.  I usually e mail them as it gives me more scope and time to explain myself. They usually get back to me by phone or e mail within a couple of days. Hope all goes well with your further treatment. x

  • Meant to add you should get a letter/ e mail/phone call with your appointment details.

  • Thank you, I will get a list of questions together before radiotherapy appt. I’m presuming first appt is to just discuss what sort of radiotherapy.

  • I had my post op appointment with the surgeon just over 2 weeks after the operation. She then referred me to the Oncologist who I saw about 2 weeks later. He recommended brachytherapy - a form of internal radiotherapy - as my additional treatment, often referred to as adjuvant treatment. It's quite common to have this treatment after a hysterectomy although there is also external radiotherapy. If it all gets too technical just ask the consultant to explain. They sometimes forget we're not as knowledgeable as them!

  • Thank you, need to get my head together. My mind just went blank today. Silly thing is I went with a list of questions before my surgery, just not today.

  • I suspect most of us go blank when we get a lot of technical stuff thrown at us. Hope it goes OK.

  • I think driving again depends on the type of surgery open or laparoscopic each have different healing times. Even if you can drive in ordinary conditions you have to be able to do an emergency stop so you need to talk to your surgical team to get some advice on time.

  • Yes it will be and to sign consent forms. You will first have a scanning session which allows them to plan your treatment. Then there’s a wait while that happens.
