Treatment Dates Received

Had a call from the Radiotherapy Department this morning and I am to begin my treatment starting next Tuesday.

i have gained good info from the dedicated radiotherapy thread and will certainly continue. I wondered though about times as I was told that on Tuesday I would receive a list of dates and times. Did this happen with others? I sort of assumed that it would be a set time. Of course as I have no transport I will be calling the local hospital transport service though a bit concerned that I won’t be giving them much notice

I figure best to give them a call tomorrow and see what they suggest. My friend will be driving me on Tuesday and says she might be able to help out Wednesday as well… shall just have to see what the ambulance service says.

  • Hi Muse

You will be given a list of dates times and treatment room, well that's how it went for me I wouldn't think that the hospitals will be very different

The transport and volunteer drivers are very good sometimes it does take a longer if your waiting on your driver to get back for you

Hope it all goes well xx

  • I expect that most hospitals follow a similar pattern.

Yes I will have my Kindle with me and the waiting area at the treatment centre is large with comfy chairs.

  • Hi Muse, I received my first date and time on the same day as my planning CT, then at my first appointment was given my first week’s dates and times.  My hospital had 7 Linac machines - A, B, C, D, E, F and G and my weekly schedule gave the date, time and which machine it would be - though the machine did sometimes change on the day. The appointments were mostly between 14.40-17.10 (I’d asked for afternoon appointments) though once one was 12.25. The general idea is that they’re supposed to be mostly about the same time each day. Variation can happen because other people may need certain treatment times, shift patterns vary, machines need to be serviced etc. At my hospital we had people having chemoradiation (chemo + radio on the same day), in-patients needing treatment, people from other hospitals needing treatment as their machine was broken, and all these factors and others can affect appointment times. Different radio treatments take different amounts of times too, so it all has to be factored in. How far away from the hospital do you live? Have they said to arrive half an hour before?

  • Thank you for the information. Our hospital is 9 miles away and as I live on the outer fringe of my town it’s a quite straightforward trip to the motorway and then one exit and again a short trip down dual carriageway

they have only said to be there for 12:00 though given finding parking we shall likely be there earlier.
