Had a bit of brown spotting. No pain or weight loss. Sonographer couldn't measure womb lining as something didn't look right. Now waiting for hysteroscopy. Could be fibroid but could be the worst news. I'm late 60s. Feeling nervous and anxious.

  • Hello Jkg

Welcome to the online community. I am sorry that you are feeling anxious after having an ultrasound. Having tests and not knowing is always hard and there are a lot of ladies on here who have been in the same position as you who will understand. I found that it really did help me to share with people who were going through similar.

My only symptom, that led to diagnosis was acute heavy bleeding. I had no pain or any other symptoms.

It is good that you have seen your doctor and had the ultrasound and that things are being checked out. It is only then that you will know for sure what is going on. It could well be a fibroid or some other condition but if there is any chance that there could be some cancer then the sooner it is found the better. That is how I tried to look at it when I was being diagnosed.

I will pop a link here and if you scroll to half way down it explains about the hysteroscopy- if you wanted to know a bit more.

  • Hi

I did just ring that number and spoke to a nurse who calmed me down. Trying not to let worry get on top of me and just think if I do get a cancer diagnosis I can go from there.  Great to speak to someone though.

  • Hello Jkg. Some (not all) women find the hysteroscopy rather tough if done while awake. If that is the case for you, do let them know, as you can arrange to have it done under anaesthetic or other pain relief. Hopefully it will be fine but just wanted you to know that if it is hard for you, there is an alternative.

I hope all goes well for you.

I had an early-stage womb cancer in 2017. My symptoms were more dramatic than yours but you are absolutely correct to get checked out just in case.  The severity of symptoms does seem to vary from one person to another. The only treatment required in my case was surgery, and I am still here, still little and still running. I am relieved to be rid of the constant ache and the constant worry of unexpected bleeds.

    LR.

  • Hi

Thanks for the reply. Being on here is helping me a lot. Good to know you got through it and are well. We actually go on holiday in 7 days time just for a week. Was in two minds whether to cancel but Insurance are ok with it and I'm guessing it will be 2 week wait for my appointment. I'm going to ring them to give them the dates and try and get an idea of the timescale.

  • Hallo Jkg and welcome to the group. It’s understandable and okay to feel nervous and anxious and all of us on this group will feel for you regarding the worrying and waiting, especially the waiting. For many of us, if not all, the waiting is the worst bit.  I only had to wait a week between TV scan and hysteroscopy as my hospital routinely book women in for both then cancel the hysteroscopy if it’s not needed. However, mine failed (some women don’t find it that painful, others do - and I was one of those!) so mine ended up being done several weeks later. Hoping you will get your appointment through soon.

  • I’m 63 and started having post menopausal bleeding.  I got right in to see my gyno.  They did a trans vaginal sonogram and found my uterus lining to be at a thickness of 16.5mm! They wanted to do a biopsy right then but my cervix was closed and would need meds to get it to open. After 2 agonizing weeks I went in and had a sonohystogram and biopsy.  The sonohystogram showed that I had several polyps measuring more than 1 cm each.  That was what was making my endometrium appear so thick. The biopsy was negative. I’m having minor surgery to remove the polyps in a few weeks.

    1. Hi  I posted back in May after a transvaginal scan that  "didn't look right".  I then had an attempted hysteroscopy but just couldn't tolerate it on just gas and air. Today I had it under G.A. Register came to see me afterwards and said my uterus seemed big, I think she said there were polyps but basically biopsy has been fast tracked and it is likely I have cancer. She said if so it would be hysterectomy and possibly removal of ovaries as well.  I think I was expecting this result even though bleeding has been my only symptom, no pain or weight loss.  I guess it is just a waiting game now but better knowing then constantly worrying.

  • Hi Jkg

I am glad that you have had your biopsy fast tracked and hope that the results come back quickly. I am sorry that it is likely to be cancer but if it is, we will be here to support you. Please let us know if there is anything that you need

  • Thanks, at least I've had a long time to contemplate this outcome so hasn't come as a shock. I'll definitely be needing your help at some point I'm sure.

  • Hi Jkg, sorry to hear you may have cancer but there are lots of ladies on this forum who can offer advice and support. The waiting for results can be quite stressful but hopefully you won't have too long to wait. Mine came back within a week but the consultant was a very determined lady! The diagnosis was a shock but once I had my treatment plan I felt better and more in control. Let us know how you get on. x
