Hello lovely ladies I’m sat in the chair having my second chemo, and 2 hours ago I had a severe reaction I felt my face burning then I literally couldn’t breath, chest pains and the worse thing of all was the back pain, within seconds I was surrounded by nurses a doctor came and I’m not sure what they did but within 15/20 mins everything was under control the staff were amazing cannot thank them enough the doctor told me I was going into anaphylactic shock…. They restarted my chemo the same dose but at a much slower rate instead of 3 hrs it will be 6 cannot thank the staff enough it was very scary x
Hello Holly1978
How scary for you! Sounds like you are being well looked after and they reacted quickly.
I hope you find it easier with the slower rate and that the rest of the session goes to plan.
Jane
They are amazing- the chemo ward I was on was so calm and not at all what I expected but as soon as there was a problem they all leapt into action. I have had excellent care the whole way through and can't thank them enough. Hope you have a relaxing evening and a chance to rest after today
Hello Holly1978, I had the same shock reactions for the first three chemos ( Paclitaxel). In the end I carried on with just Carboplatin for final 3 treatments as the Chemotherapy dept tried diluting it (Paclitaxel) with separate infusion of saline and gave it over longer time, bigger dose of antihistamine and steroids but I still reacted so after lengthy discussion with chemo specialist nurse, decided to stop. Like yourself my team were brilliant they said they would try again after giving extra meds after about half hour it carried on fine but The decision was easy for me to stop as the chemo offered was optional as unsure if it was actually doing anything as cancer contained within the polyp. Hopefully your next and subsequent treatments will go smoothly, they did say it was most unusual for me to have the reaction 3 times, yet I've had Covid and flu jabs and NEVER EVER react to those. Maybe it's my body making the decision that it didn't actually need this drug.
Best wishes going forward xx
Thankyou Madesp, it’s very painful isn’t it, especially in the back for me, was discussing with the doctor later she said it’s very unusual for it to happen again and she wanted me to proceed next time and they would carefully monitor me so I’m happy with that, but I don’t think I could take the risk if it keeps on happening hopefully it won’t I think with it being 3A serous adenocarcinoma that I have I would be disappointed if I couldn’t carry on with it, in your position I would definitely have stopped without a doubt such needless pain have a lovely weekend xx
