Hello all hope everyone is well, I had my first chemotherapy 2 weeks ago it’s was tough, chemotherapy itself went well, a few tears to begin with as it hit me I’m back here again after all these years, no reaction to the chemo everything went smoothly, I was fine for about 2 days then the 3rd day bone pain especially my back kicked in I also knew I had developed a UTI, phoned my GP who insisted I came in I was not well at all but he refused to give me a prescription told me I had to be seen he gave me a time luckily my daughter was home and she was able to drive me almost 2 hours in a waiting room in pain with my joints just waiting I was not happy before I saw the GP. I came home and for the next 3 days on and off I vomited hot sweats and developed a rash on my legs it disappeared after about 2 hours didn’t eat properly for 5 days thankyou for the tip about the ginger biscuits they were a life saver nibbling them in the middle of the night when I started to feel queasy, I’m perfectly fine now overall I probably had 5 days of illness and another 4 of fatigue, my hair started to fall out day 9 in clumps today my hubby shaved it lots of tears but I feel better already now that I know I will not be waking up to the sight of my hair on the pillow every morning, just getting prepared for round 2 next Saturday, happy Easter to all hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Hi Holly1978
Well done for doing your first cycle of chemotherapy. It is tough but that's the first one out of the way now. Sorry to hear about your UTI and I hope that you have recovered from that now.
I also had the back pain from around day 3 and in the end I was prescribed some pain relief. I sympathise with the hot sweats and rashes - I had them on my first cycle. Glad that the ginger biscuits worked. I was also recommended ginger tea for nausea but couldn't face it.
Glad that you are feeling ok now- I found the same- it was the first few days then gradually felt better, then the next cycle starts. I tried to do a bit more on those days and go out and about and get fresh air etc.
Hair loss is tough but it sounds like now you have taken control and hubby has shaved it that you are coping better with it. It is tough and one of the things I found hardest to cope with.
I hope that you continue to feel well over Easter and are able to enjoy a bit of the sunshine. Happy Easter and good luck with round 2.
Jane
That sounds very rough.Given your condition your GP was definitely out of order. It’s not a time to have to sit in a waiting room for hours!
Are there no anti sickness medication that you can have for the nausea? All the Macmillan nurses assure me that there are good medication for this side effect.
Thankyou jane2511 not easy at all, yes the ginger biscuits were a great help some days they were all I had eaten along with iced water, I will try the ginger tea although I think probably like you I might not be able to drink it, but will try anything have a lovely weekend.
Thankyou Muse for your reply, yes it was out of order I told him when I got in the room I was quite upset by then, he apologised explained there were 3 doctors sick, still no excuse as he was adamant that I had to be there at 3oclock and it was almost 5 before I was seen, yes they gave me plenty of medication for anti sickness and on the whole they worked, but I was sick on and of for a few days even with them.
